Comparison of the Time of Miriam and Ours

Pharaoh asked the Egyptian Midwives to kill the male newborns by drowning them in the river once they were born. This would have been murder had the Egyptian midwives gone through with it. They feared the LORD God more than they feared the Pharaoh. What is the excuse for all the abortions that goes on in our time?

Miriam is identified because of the times she lived in. I believe we also are identified by our times as well. Miriam lived in uncertain times not knowing the outcome. Our times are also perilous and there is an uncertainty about them as well.

The time of Moses the Pharaoh had ordered that all male children that were born to the Hebrew slaves should be drowned in the river. (Exodus 1:22). According to the account in Exodus the Egyptian Pharaoh was worried about the increasing population of the Children of Israel.

There was an order for the Egyptian Midwives to kill all the Hebrew baby boys once they were born, the baby girls should live. This was ordered by Pharaoh who was the ruler of the land. The midwives disregarded the Pharaoh’s order to kill the newborns because they feared the LORD God more than they feared the Pharaoh. (Exodus 1:15-18).

Pharaoh wanted to get rid of the population of the poor Hebrew slaves. Abortion is a great way of riding the population of the poor of society. When abortion is made legal then two things can be accomplished by the leadership of today. First the poor population can be controlled. Second the aborted fetus can be sold to the highest bidder for stem cell research.

This brings up a good point about our times. The first point is abortions, we do not need a Pharaoh telling midwives to kill the newborns; the women in our society do that all on their own. Let me make a distinction here women who follow after the world is only following after the reasoning’s of the world and that is the way of the world. Women who follow after the ways of Christ are held at a higher standard. There are many reasons why a woman has an abortion and those reasons can comfort them. The fact is an abortion of a newborn baby still spells murder.

Everyone has an opinion about the question about abortion; is it right or morally wrong? When does life begin? Both good questions the answers are no so easy. I will make it a little easier by narrowing the parameters. Because this post is directed toward Woman of Christ that is the prospective we shall look at this explosive question. We will be addressing the issue of abortion from a Christian prospective.

We all realize that abortion is the most highly debated social issue of our time. This moral issue has been used as a symbol of the right for independent woman who are in charge of their own body. If this was true then doesn’t it stand to reason that an unmarried woman would never get pregnant and never have to face the issue of an unwanted baby if they truly did have control over their bodies? It is comfortable to make abortion a black and white issue. Life is not black and white there are many shades of gray that affect our lives. The time we live in dictates the teachings we give to our daughter.

Woman of Christ can thump the Bible in front of our daughter’s eyes all day long; unfortunately once they leave the door of our Christian homes they are on another playing field. We, as mothers, grandmothers, sisters, daughters, even aunts, cousins or friends have to take this into account and be open, knowledgeable and well- informed of the temptations that are playing our women. We need to be prepared to assist our women on how to jump over those stumbling blocks and snares that the world has in place to trap our women.

There are too many churches out there that stand on the principles of “not judging” when it comes to the issue of abortion. There may be some churches that would add the exception to say it is wrong and there are many outlets out there somewhere to aid women who cannot afford to keep or know how to keep a baby. Social issues that cause pregnancy among unmarried girls are never addressed.

It still remains the responsibility of the married Christian woman to address the hard social rights and wrongs for our unmarried girls. Take this opportunity to sit down with the unmarried daughters and sisters in Christ you love and address the social luring that pledge their world. Help be part of the solution not part of the problem.

How many abortions can be prevented if the social luring can be averted? How many abortions can be prevented if the standard for love is set higher, if looks on the outside can be less important than to see the inside of a person? If unmarried women knew it takes two people working for a marriage together for the perfect love they seek. If only unmarried women knew it was okay to save them-selves for marriage. They need to look at every date as a potential lifelong partner.

The blunt point is simple; sex before marriage is wrong and leads to all kinds of problems. Abortion is an abomination in the sight of the LORD God because it is the killing an unborn treasure that belongs to Him.

“Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee. For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them. How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them!” (Psalm 139:12-17).
