Partridge Fowl

Partridge was mentioned twice in the Bible. Once with David who compared himself to a flea and a harmless partridge. (1 Samuel 26:20). Jeremiah tell how the LORD searches the heart and compares it to the partridge that sits on eggs. (Jeremiah 17:11).

David had been hunted by King Saul for ten years. David refused to raise his hand against King Saul who had hunted David as the fowler hunts the mountain partridge. David says King Saul, king of Israel, seeks David a flea, as when one does hunt a partridge in the mountain. Both a flea and partridge are things of little worth. It was shameful that a king of Israel would waste the army of Israel to chase a flea or partridge. A flea is very small and a partridge is a harmless bird, (1 Samuel 26:20). David was anointed king over Israel and Judah in Hebron. He reigned 33 years over all Israel and Judah. David was thirty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years. David reigned over Judah in Hebron seven years and six months: and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty and three years over all Israel and Judah. (2 Samuel 5:1-21).

The LORD search the heart, I try the reins which is the seat of emotion and affection, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings. As the partridge sits on eggs, and does not hatch them not; so he that gets riches, and not by right, shall leave them in the midst of his days, and at his end shall be a fool. (Jeremiah 17:10-11). Blessed is the man that trusts in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is. He shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreads out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat comes, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit. . (Jeremiah 17:7-7).
