Faithfulness in Everyday Life

We need to make a commitment daily to remain in faithfulness in our walk with Jesus Christ. Faithfulness is to be loyal, dependable, and true to one’s commitments to the Lord. Faithfulness is the bonding that preserves our faith so we can be dependable and trusting to the LORD. Because the LORD God is trustworthy with us we can be faith-worthy in Him and too Him!
Galatians 5:22

Living a life in faithfulness everyday means as Christians, followers of Jesus Christ, we have the power to live and the faith to die. You see the sin question was settled at the cross. The fear of death was settled by the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The abundance of life and eternal life are offered to us. That means we should live “in Christ” and with “Christ in us.” (Butler, 1962, p.22).

These words are easily said but what does it mean to us as women of Christ? We are to live the true values Christian virtue. We are to teach them to our children, family, friends and those around us. That is we are to practice the fruit of the spirit love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. (Galatians 5:22; Ephesians 5:9).

These Fruits of the Spirit identify the values that form the core of our Christians values and how we can live these values in our everyday existence. The task for Women of Christ is to remain faithful to the person and the words of Jesus. They return hatred with love. Women of Christ are a hopeful people. Women of Christ must be alert to opportunities to be of service for Jesus. Through these deeds they focus and celebrate our faithfulness to the person, Jesus. (Sailer, 2012).

When we turn to the Scriptures we find many clues of what faithfulness means:

Proverbs 14:5 reminds us that: “A faithful witness will not lie: but a false witness will utter lies.”

1Corinthians 1:9 ”God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.”

1Corinthians 4:2 “Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.”

2 Thessalonians 3:3 “Faithfulness in Everyday LifeBut the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil.”

1John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

We need to make a commitment daily to remain in faithfulness in our walk with Jesus Christ. We need to remain faithful to Christ and His teaching in the good times and in the bad times. We need to always putting Him first in whatever we do using His example for our everyday life. We need to make a commitment to guard our heart, eyes, mouth and our minds to preserve and safeguard our faithfulness against the temptations of this world. The faithfulness that counts most is the faithfulness we show towards the LORD God. We can find the strength and commitment to be faithful to the LORD God because the LORD God is always faithful to us. It is the faithfulness is the fruit that we give to the LORD so He can change us from inside out. It gives us the ability to take what Christ had done in us and for us and be a blessing to others with loyalty, trust and faithfulness.

Faithfulness is one of the characteristics of the Fruit of the Spirit. The Holy Spirit works on our heart and on our mind. The Holy Spirit reveals the truth of how much better it is when we do what the LORD God would have us to do or say. Jesus Christ was our example on this earth on how we should honor the LORD God in faithfulness. It is the Fruit of the Spirit what works to transform us into the likeness and faithfulness of the Lord. Faithfulness requires us to move beyond ourselves and our minds and put the Will of the LORD first in our lives.

Deuteronomy 7:9 reminds us; “Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations;” Because of the faithfulness of the LORD God we appreciate His reliability. We need to make a commitment in our everyday life that we will strive to be more reliable in our characteristics in dealing with those people put in our care.

Examples of Faithfulness can be seen through examples of the Bible:
“My servant Moses is not so, who is faithful in all mine house.” (Numbers 12:7). Moses did everything the LORD asked him to do.

Genesis 37-39 tells about Joseph, one of the sons of Jacob who was called Israel, Joseph remained faithful to his teachings. When faithfulness brought him difficulties, threatened his life, carried him into slavery, thrown into prison he still remained faithful to the LORD God.

Daniel was faithful to the LORD God, even when his own personal safety was threatened. Daniel was taken as a child as a prisoner to Babylon and enrolled in the court of the king. The faithfulness of Daniel never wavered to be disobedient or even to deny the LORD God. (Daniel 6:1-5). Daniel was even honored for his faithfulness even in the most ungodly wicked surroundings by the LORD God.
The greatest example of faithfulness in the Scriptures is that of Jesus Christ. He always did the will of His Father Luke 22:42 reminds us that even when Jesus was going to be crucified he prayed to His Father “Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.” That is true faithfulness.

We have seen many faithful women in the Bible. I will only mention a few we have studied but many of the women we have studied can be said have taught us faithfulness. The widow with the two mites is a great example who in her faith and her love and dedication was obedient to the LORD. (Mark 12:42-44; Luke 21:2-4). Phebe was a committed Christian in the early church who was faithful and dedicated to the service of the Lord Jesus Christ. (Romans 16:1-2). Lydia is portrayed as a woman of faithfulness and prayer with the conviction and strength to live her baptism in honesty and courage. (Acts 16:14:12-15, 40). Elizabeth is a strong illustration of a faithful, selfless, woman who put the LORD first before her desires. Her yearning to have a child was always there but there was no bitterness or animosity toward the LORD because she did not have a child. (Luke 1:1-80).

Faithfulness in our everyday life means the must abide in Christ! We must allow His words to dwell richly and deeply in our very soul. We must learn to please the LORD God rather than pleasing our own heart. This is how we can manifest a Christ like character through the fruit of the Spirit, which dwells within us. “But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you. Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.” (Romans 8:11-15).
