Jesus Heals Blind Bartimaeus

Bartimaeus, the blind beggar, had faith that Jesus could heal his blindness. He was persistence in his calling out to Jesus. Because Bartimaeus responded in complete faith and obedience Jesus heals Bartimaeus. This is a lesson about faith we all need to learn.
Mark 10:46–52

Jesus and His disciples departed from Jericho, a great multitude followed him. There were a great number of people with them.

There was a blind man named Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the highway begging. When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, and say, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me.

Many of the people charged him that he should hold his peace: but he cried the more a great deal, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me. Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be called. And they call the blind man, saying unto him, Be of good comfort, rise; Jesus calls you to come.
Bartimaeus casted away his garment rose and came unto Jesus. Jesus asks him what he wanted Jesus to do for him. Bartimaeus answered Jesus “Lord, that I might receive my sight.”

Jesus said unto him, Go your way; your faith has made you whole. And immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way.

What Can Be Learned From This Lesson?

Bartimaeus is named in this story as the blind man. He was begging by the side of the road as Jesus approached Jericho. He is a wonderful example of faith because he never gave up.

Bartimaeus was persistent meaning that he never gave us in wanting the attention of Jesus. He called out again and again. He would not stop until he could talk to Jesus. Even when the crowd told him to be quiet he continued shouting for Jesus.

Bartimaeus began as a blind man, sitting and begging. When Jesus called this man to Him Bartimaeus casted away his garment rose and came unto Jesus. This means that going to Jesus was more important than the money he has collected begging.

Bartimaeus ask for healing not for money but for his sight to be restored. Because Bartimaeus responded in complete faith and obedience Jesus heals Bartimaeus.

We should never give up either. We should pray and pray to Jesus for the things that are really important to us. It does require that we don’t just pray but we listen and respond and we most of all need faith that Jesus will answer our prayers. We must have the faith and willingness to leave all to come to Jesus.
