Jesus Raises the Daughter of Jairus

The ruler of the synagogue, Jairus, fell down and worshipped Jesus saying his daughter was dead. Jesus teaches us to not fear, believe and have faith. We when have Jesus by our side what is there to fear?
Matthew 9:18-19, 23-25; Mark 5:22-24, 35-43; Luke 8:41-42, 49-56

Jairus was a ruler of the synagogue when he saw Jesus he fell to his feet and worshipped Jesus. Jairus had one only daughter, about twelve years of age, and she lay at the point of death.

Jairus prayed that Jesus would come and lay his hands on her, that she may be healed and shall live. Jesus and His disciples and many people followed Him.

When Jesus came into the ruler’s house, and saw the minstrels and the people making a noise, there were those who told Jairus not to bother Jesus anymore because his daughter was dead.

When Jesus heard it, he answered him, saying, Fear not: believe only, and she shall be made whole. Jesus told those gathered that the maid was not dead, but sleeping. They laughed and scorned Jesus.

There was tumult and many in the home were crying and wailing greatly. Jesus entered the house and did not allow anyone to follow Him except Peter, and James, and John the brother of James and the father and mother of the child.

Jesus took the child by the hand, and called, saying, Maid, arise. And her spirit came again, and she arose straightway and walked: and he commanded to give her food to eat. Her parents were astonished: but Jesus charged them that they should tell no man what was done. The fame of Jesus spread throughout the land.

What Can Be Learned From This Lesson?

We live in a time when it is not socially acceptable to follow the teachings of Jesus. When I was a little girl everyone knew the name of Jesus. It was not uncommon to know what Jesus could do.

Today is not so different in who it was with the beginning of the ministry of Jesus. Many of the miracles of Jesus helped to spread His fame throughout the land so people would give glory to the LORD God.

Jesus only took except Peter, and James, and John the brother of James and the father and mother of the child into the room with Him. These are the people who already had faith and believed Jesus was who He claimed He was: The Son of God.

We must not be afraid have faith, trust and believe in Jesus. We can read in the Bible all the great things He did while He walked the earth. There are millions and millions of accounts of other miracles that Jesus had done in the lives of His followers.

Roman 12:1- 21 gives us guidance how we should be followers of Jesus. We are to live our lives as a sacrifice that is holy and acceptable unto the Lord. Read the rest of the verse and pull out other considerations for how we are to live our lives following Christ.
