Introduction of the Miracles of Jesus

When we study the miracles of Jesus, we are growing faith in our heart because faith comes from hearing the Word of God. We live by faith under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, expecting the LORD God to meet all our needs as He promised.

Miracles are events that cannot be explained by any human words or through natural explanations. Miracles were done as a sign or a token. Jesus did miracles to distinguish or make Him known. Jesus also did miracles and wonders by the authority of the LORD God.

Jesus performed 37 miracles. These miracles were acts of love and power to draw people to Jesus. Jesus revealed His divine nature. It was through doing miracles that hears were opened and the message of salvation was given bringing many people to the LORD God so they may glorify the LORD God.

Whenever Jesus performed a miracle, it was always done for a specific purpose. Many were for the manifesting forth His glory. An example of this is with the very first miracle Jesus did in Cana of Galilee. Jesus turned water into wine at the celebration of a marriage. The disciples knew Jesus was who He said He was and they believed on Him. (John 2:11).

The disciples knew that Jesus was a Rabbi, and teacher who came from LORD God because no man could do these miracles that He did unless He came from the LORD God. (John 3:2). These miracles pointed to Jesus as the Messiah.

Jesus healed every kind of disease and every kind of sickness. This was done by just His touch. (Matthew 4:23). Jesus did all kinds of miracles and healed illnesses such as leprosy, blindness, deafness, paralysis, fevers, shriveled limbs, muteness, blood hemorrhages and even healed an amputated ear.

Jesus did more than just healing the sick and raising the dead for the sake of relieving the suffering. These miracles gave Jesus the special credentials of being part of the kingdom of the LORD God. Jesus had compassion on the people and He felt their suffering and He showed them His love through the healing of the sick and raising the dead.

Another reason Jesus did miracles was to show He was able to forgive sins. Jesus said things like “your sins are forgiven” and Jesus healed the sick of the palsy so they may know the Son of man, Jesus, has power on earth to forgive sins. (Matthew 9:6).

Jesus also demonstrated His authority over life and death by doing miracles. There were three example of Jesus raising someone from death. These were the daughter of Jairus who died, the son of the widow of Nain who was put in the coffin. We all remember Lazarus who was dead in the grave for four days.

Miracles produce hope and sometimes that provides enough motivation for someone to seek Jesus. And miracles, signs and wonders show that Jesus was doing the will of God, overcoming all evil with good Jesus said: “If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not. But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him. (John 10:37-38). This supports the personhood of Jesus and makes it very clear that one can conclude Jesus is who He claims to be, the Son of the LORD God.

Miracles were used to tell people about salvation. Salvation is the belief that Jesus died for the remission of their sins through the repentance and faith in Jesus Christ. It is because of the blood of Jesus Christ that we are saved from the penalty of sin and spiritual death.

When Adam and Eve rebelled, man was separated from the LORD God through sin. God’s holiness required punishment and payment or atonement for sin, which leads to an eternal death. Only a perfect, spotless sacrifice can be offered to pay for our sin. It was Jesus who was perfect God-man, came to offer the pure, complete and everlasting sacrifice to remove, atone, and make eternal payment for sin. This was done because the LORD God loves us and desires an intimate relationship with us. The call to salvation begins with LORD God. He initiates the invitation by drawing us to come to Him.
