I Have Decided to Follow Jesus

This lesson is designed to help the child understand that they are called to follow Jesus. Jesus is our example as we travel through life.

1 Peter 2:21 and Matthew 16:24

We can learn from 1 Peter 2:21 which tells us’ “For even hereunto were you were called : because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, thy you should follow His steps.”

What this means to us is we were called to servants of Jesus Christ. Can you think of ways we can serve Jesus? Did you know that our precious Jesus is our example and have left us example that is easy for us to follow.
Jesus taught us to be Baptized. Jesus taught us to love one another just as He has loved us. Jesus is also our guide and He leads us. Jesus wants us to trust and believe in Him. Jesus wants us to obey our parents. Jesus wants us to talk to God and pray each day.

3 John 1:11 warns us: “Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that does good is of God: but he that does evil has not seen God.” Do you know what it means to not follow evil? What are some things in your world that could be considered evil? Here are a few example how many more can you think of? Lying, stealing, being mean, being hateful, destroying other people things.

Have you heard mommy and Daddy talking about “being of the world all the time ”? Here are some example to help illustrate what that means: doing what other kids are doing even when you know it is wrong, being selfish, making fun of others, bullying, name calling, being lay, only thinking about money and what it can buy for you, telling lies, swearing, stealing, just always thinking about yourself.

Jesus tells us in John 12:26 to follow Him and He even tells us why we should follow Him by saying: “If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honor.”

Will you decide to follow Jesus? Just what does it mean to follow Jesus? Here are a few examples to get you started then you can come up with examples of your own. Helping others, being obedient, reading your Bible, being to kind to others, being thankful for what you have, being understanding, thinking of others, praying, being loving and kind.

It is important for you to understand that you are called to follow Jesus. Just like Jesus is our example we are to also be example to others.
