Daniel In The Lion’s Den
The men who envy Daniel, hate him, resent him and loathe him now conspire to frame him. Since they couldn’t accuse Daniel of anything, all the presidents of the kingdom, the governors, and the princes, the counsellors, and the captains, have to invent something that would turn the King against him. They persuade King Darius to pass a law forbidding anyone to petition any God, deity, or human, except Darius himself for thirty days. They were aware of great faith Daniel had in the LORD God; they know Daniel could never not pray to his God.
Daniel 6:1-28
King Darius, the Median, took the kingdom and set a hundred and twenty princes, which were over the whole kingdom. Daniel was the first of three presidents chosen by King Darius. Daniel was favored over the other presidents and princes.
The other presidents and princes turned against Daniel and tried to find fault with him. They decide to use the law of the LORD God against him. So they went to King Darius, all the presidents of the kingdom, the governors, and the princes, the counsellors, and the captains, have consulted together to establish a royal statute, and to make a firm decree, that whosoever shall ask a petition (a request) of any God or man for thirty days, except for the king, shall be cast into the den of lions. king Darius signed the writing and the decree.
Daniel knew about this decree signed by the King. Daniel went into his house, and opened his windows toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, just like he always did.
When the presidents of the kingdom, the governors, and the princes, the counsellors, and the captains caught Daniel praying and making supplication before his God they ran to the king. They were like a little tattle telling baby. Singing and dancing because Daniel was going to be thrown into the lion’s den.
They reminded King Darius, that the law of the Medes and Persians is, that no decree nor statute which the king established may be changed. Then the king commanded, and they brought Daniel, and cast him into the den of lions. Now the king spoke and said unto Daniel, Your God whom thou serve continually, he will deliver thee. A stone was brought, and laid upon the mouth of the den; and the king sealed it with his own signet, and with the signet of his lords; that the purpose might not be changed concerning Daniel.
Then the king arose very early in the morning, and went in haste unto the den of lions. When he came to the den, he cried with a pained grievous voice unto Daniel: O Daniel, servant of the living God, is your God, whom you serve continually, able to deliver thee from the lions? Then said Daniel unto the king, O king, live forever. My God has sent his angel, and has shut the lions’ mouths, that they have not hurt me: forasmuch as before him innocence was found in me; and also, before you, O king, have I done no hurt.
King Darius was so happy the commanded Daniel should be taken out of the lion den because he believed in his God. The king commanded, and they brought those men which had accused Daniel, and they cast them into the den of lions, them, their children, and their wives; and the lions had the mastery of them, and brake all their bones in pieces or ever they came at the bottom of the den.
Then king Darius wrote unto all people, nations, and languages, that dwell in all the earth; That in every dominion of my kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel: for he is the living God, and steadfast forever, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed, and his dominion shall be even unto the end. 27 He delivered and rescued, and he worked signs and wonders in heaven and in earth, who hath delivered Daniel from the power of the lions. Daniel prospered in the reign of Darius, and in the reign of Cyrus the Persian.
What we should we learn from this story?
The men who envy Daniel, hate him, resent him and loathe him now conspire to frame him. Since they couldn’t accuse Daniel of anything, all the presidents of the kingdom, the governors, and the princes, the counsellors, and the captains, have to invent something that would turn the King against him. They persuade King Darius to pass a law forbidding anyone to petition any God, deity, or human, except Darius himself for thirty days. They were aware of great faith Daniel had in the LORD God; they know Daniel could never not pray to his God.
It did take great courage, faith and conviction to go against the King and follow the teachings of the LORD. Daniel was willing to go to the Lion’s den and possible face certain death than to go against the LORD God.
We can never forget we are children of the Lord, because of Jesus Christ and the sacrifices He has made for us. Believing on Jesus give us courage, faith and conviction to do what is morally right. We can never turn our back on Jesus, because He has never turned His back on us. We are children of the LORD God.
