Open Bible Standard Churches

The Open Bible Standard Churches are an association of Pentecostal Protestant churches. Their doctrine is like the Assemblies of God; they believe in the gifts of the Spirit and speaking in tongues. They believe speaking in tongues is the proof of the gifts of the Spirit being manifested in the believer.

The Open Bible Standard Churches is affiliated with the National Association of Evangelicals, the Pentecostal/Charismatic churches of North America, and the Pentecostal World Conference and is active in the Mission America movement.

The Open Bible Standard Churches has its offices in Des Moines, Iowa. The Eugene Bible College is affiliated with the Open Bible Churches which is located in Eugene, Oregon. The Eugene Bible College is an accredited and provides traditional education.

History

The Open Bible Churches came out of the Azusa Street Revival and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in 1906 at the Azusa Street Mission in Los Angeles. Both the Bible Standard Conference which was founded in Eugene, Oregon in 1919 and the Open Bible Evangelistic Association which was founded in Des Moines, Iowa in 1932 can trace their roots to the Azusa movement. These two movements were very similar in their doctrine and their structure and they unified to form the Open Bible Standard Church in 1932.

The Open Bible Standard Church claims a simple faith; they stress prayer, evangelism, international missions and a free fellowship with any church or group that share the same type of attribute organization.

Belief

The Open Bible Standard Churches believes the Bible is the inspired Word of God and the only infallible guide and rule of their faith and practice.

The Open Bible Standard Churches believes there is one God, in the unity of the god head that manifests in three persons, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. They believe they are equally divine and perfection and attributes.

They believe God the Father is the co-Creator with the Son and the Holy Spirit, who is the eternal, all powerful, all knowing, everywhere present and unchangeable creator of all.

The Open Bible Standard Churches believes in God the Son, is the co- Creator with the Father and the Holy Spirit, who took upon Himself human form, being conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, and given the name, Jesus. His death by crucifixion and His bodily resurrection, reconciled the human race to God. They believe Jesus Christ ascended into heaven where He is seated at the right hand of the Father and is making intercession for mankind as the King of kings and the Lord of lords.

The Open Bible Standard Churches believes Jesus Christ was the sacrifice that God planned from the foundation of the world for the sin of the human race. They believe it was by shedding His blood and dying on the cross, Jesus made provision for the salvation of all people.

The Open Bible Standard Churches believe mankind cannot save themselves so salvation is by the grace of God alone. They believe salvation is received by faith with repentance and acceptance of Jesus Christ as a personal Savior.

The Open Bible Standard Churches believes in God the Holy Spirit, who is co-Creator with the Father and the Son, who is now sent by the Father through the Son to convict the word of sin, lead us into all truth, and empower and equip the Church to carry on Christ’s work on earth.

The Open Bible Standard Churches believes in water baptism by immersion in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. They believe baptism is an outward sign of an inward work and is commanded by God following conversion.

The Open Bible Standard Churches believe the Holy Spirit comes to dwell in every believer at the moment of salvation. They believe baptism in the Holy Spirit is distinct from salvation, the releasing of the power of the Holy Spirit through faith. They expect believers to speaking tongues and other bible manifestations especially at the Baptism in the Holy Spirit. The Baptism is believed to be given to endure the believer with power from God so they can inspire the witness for Christ. The Open Bible Standard Churches believes the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ assures the believer of a bodily resurrection and eternal life.

The Open Bible Standard Churches believe in the partaking of the bread and the coup of communion in remembrance of the death, burial, and resurrection of the Lord. They celebrate an open communion for all believers regardless of their church affiliation.

The Open Bible Standard Churches believes the power of God to heal the sick and afflicted is provided for in Christ’s death on the cross. They believe God is willing to and does heal today.

The Open Bible Standard Churches believe in the Great Commission that was commanded by the Lord Jesus Christ to carry the gospel to the entire word and to every nation.

The Open Bible Standard Churches believes the civil government is ordained of God, and all people should be subject to the laws of the land, in less they are contrary to Scripture. They believe the individual is subject to their own conscience in times of war and participating in actual combat and the taking of human life.

The Open Bible Standard Churches believe in the second coming of Christ will be personal, visible, and triumphant. They believe Christians should meet regularly for edification, proclamation of the gospel, worship and fellowship. They believe and encourage believers to do work of the ministry according to their spiritual gifts, and should tithe and contribute financially to their church.

The Open Bible Standard Churches believe there will be a final judgment for all unbelievers. They believe there is an actual place of hell and it is a place of remorse that is reserved forever for the devil and his angels and those whose names are not written in the book of life. The Open Bible Standard Churches also believes that heaven is an actual place where believers will dwell forever with God and receive the reward of their deeds done while on earth.
