Introduction of Jonah
The prophet Jonah shows the grace of the LORD God is greater even when a prophet is reluctant to obey. Jonah was disobedient to the direction of the LORD. We all learn about the love, compassion and the grace that was given to Jonah. This same love, compassion and the grace of the LORD belongs to us also as His children.
The word of the LORD came unto Jonah the son of Amittai, telling Jonah to arise and to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it. Their wickedness is come up before the LORD.
Jonah is one of the twelve Minor Prophets and was the advisor to King Jeroboam II in Samaria. Jonah tells about being sent to Nineveh and the Assyrian Empire had repented at the preaching of Jonah.
The Book of Jonah is about the LORD God directed Jonah to go to Nineveh the capital of Assyria and tell them to repent. Jonah disobeyed, boarded a ship and headed for Tarshish. There was a great storm, a large fish, the prayer of Jonah, Jonah and the gourd vine, Jonah saved from his stubbornness and pride.
The study of the Book of Jonah will explore the first call of Jonah by the LORD. The storm at Sea and Jonah in the belly of the whale. The prayer and deliverance of Jonah. The LORD calling Jonah for the second time. The conversion of Nineveh by the preaching of Jonah. The saving of Nineveh. The response from Jonah that the LORD changed His mind and saved Nineveh.
