Sycamore/ Sycomore Fruit
The prophet Amos was a gatherer of sycomore fruit. The tree could be destroyed with frost and the poor people used its wood rather than cedar. Sycamore/ Sycomore fruit is only mentioned in Amos as being a gatherer. The trees were destroyed with frost even though they grow in abundance.
Amos, was no prophet, neither was I a prophet’s son; but I was a herdsman, and a gatherer of sycomore fruit: (Amos 7:14). The sycamore trees were destroyed with frost. (Psalm 78:47). The king made silver to be in Jerusalem as stones, and cedars made he to be as the sycamore trees that are in the vale, for abundance. (1 Kings 10:27). The sycomore trees were often planted along roadways for its shade. Zacchaeus wanted to see Jesus but was little of stature so he climbed up into a sycomore tree to see Jesus. (Luke 19:4). Poor people used its wood rather than expensive cedar. (Isaiah 9:10).
