Elisha Purifies the Pot of Stew
There was a severe famine in the land. Elisha told his servant to set on the great pot, and seethe pottage (soup or stew) for the sons of the prophets. When the one went out in the field he found an ingredient that poisoned the pot of stew. It was the man of God, Elisha, who had the way of serving the pottage without any harm coming to the sons of the prophets.
2 Kings 4:38–41
Elisha came to Gilgal and there was a famine in the land. The sons of the prophets were sitting before Elisha. Elisha told his servant to set on the great pot, and seethe pottage (soup or stew) for the sons of the prophets.
One of the servants went out into the field to gather herbs, and found a wild vine, and gathered thereof wild gourds his lap full, and came and shred them into the pot of pottage. They did not know what the wild vine was.
So the servants poured out the stew for the men to eat. And it came to pass, as they were eating of the pottage, that they cried out, and said, O you man of God, there is death in the pot. And they could not eat thereof.
Elisha told them to bring meal (flour). And Elisha cast it into the pot; and he said for the servant to pour out for the people, that they may eat. And there was no harm in the pot.
