King Solomon Rejects the LORD and his Death
King Solomon led the land of Israel to greatness. He was a man of wisdom given by the LORD. He wrote many of the wise sayings in the Book of Proverbs. He built the Temple for the LORD God. He wrote more than a thousand songs. The demise of King Solomon came in his old age. It was because of his many foreign wives that he allowed them to worship other gods. This angered the LORD God. We must avoid anything that we consider more important than following after Jesus Christ.
1 Kings 11:9-43.
The LORD was angry with King Solomon, because his heart was turned from the LORD God of Israel, which had appeared unto him twice, and had commanded him that he should not go after other gods: but King Solomon did not keep the commandments of the LORD.
The LORD said unto Solomon, since he had not kept my covenant and my statutes, which I have commanded you, I will surely tear the kingdom from you, and will give it to your servant.
The LORD God said He would tear the kingdom out of the hand of Solomon’s son. Yet, the LORD would not tear away all the kingdom; but would give one tribe to the Solomon’s son for the sake of David, and for Jerusalem’s sake which the LORD has chosen.
Because King Solomon had forsaken the LORD, and had worshipped Ashtoreth the goddess of the god of the Moabites and the god of the children of Ammon, and had not walked in the ways of the LORD God that which is right in the eyes of the LORD and kept His statutes and His judgments, as did David his father. The LORD would for this afflict the seed of David, but not for ever.
The time that Solomon reigned in Jerusalem over all Israel was forty years. Solomon slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David his father: and Rehoboam his son reigned in his stead.
What Can This Story Teach Us?
Solomon died in Jerusalem after 40 years as ruler of Israel. He was buried in the City of David. His son, Rehoboam succeeded him as king. Under the rule of Rehoboam, the empire of King Solomon was lost and his kingdom was divided into two parts.
The downfall of King Solomon was because he did not obey the LORD God and took many foreign wives and allowed the worship of other gods. Even building shrines for the sacrifices of these gods by his foreign wives.
We must always follow the ways of the LORD God which is taught to us by Jesus Christ our Lord. We must avoid all the many different little gods that are around us in our lives today. Things like money, power, entertainment, and even video games. Anything that you put before the LORD is worshipping a little god.
Following Jesus means we are: helping others, being loving, being giving, being obedient, reading the Bible, being kind, being thankful, always telling the truth, thinking of others, praying, Only serve the LORD, keep the commandments of the LORD
We must avoid anything that we consider more important than following after Jesus Christ. “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” (Matthew 6:33).
