Introduction of Solomon and His Anointing as King
The introduction to King Solomon will teach us many lessons as we get to know him. The message that this lesson gives us is if we keep the truth with all our heart and with all our soul, the LORD will not fail us in our life. 1 Kings 1 and 2
When King David was getting old Bathsheba went to him and asked him to swear that their son Solomon would be make king after him. The eldest son Adonijah was not sitting on the throne and Bathsheba feared for her life and the life of Solomon.
Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet have anointed Solomon king in Gihon as King David ordered while he was still alive. There was great rejoicing and everyone in the city knew that Solomon sat on the throne of the kingdom. (1 King 1:45-46).
When King David was getting close of dying he charged his son Solomon saying Solomon should stay strong and show himself a man. Solomon was to keep the charge of the LORD God, to walk in his ways, to keep his statutes, and his commandments, and his judgments, and his testimonies, as it is written in the Law of Moses, that he might prosper in all that he does. Keep the truth with all his heart and with all his soul, the LORD will not fail him a man on the throne of Israel. (1 King 2:3-4).
Solomon was 12 years old at the time he was anointed King. Solomon was young but he grows up being known for his wisdom. He was the author of Ecclesiastes and much of the book of Proverbs, and is considered one of the wisest men in history.
What Can This Story Teach Us?
King Solomon will teach us many lessons as we get to know him. The message that this lesson gives us is if we keep the truth with all our heart and with all our soul, the LORD will not fail you.
We should also know if we seek the LORD God, you shall find him. We need to seek Him with your heart and with all your soul. (Deuteronomy 4:29).
We shall the LORD your God with all you heart, with all your soul, and with all your might. (Deuteronomy 6:5).
The LORD your God has commanded that you do all His commandments and laws and customs and to do them with all your heart, and with all your soul. (Deuteronomy 26:16).
Jesus tells us we should love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. (Matthew 22:37).
You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength: this is the first commandment. (Mark 12:30).
