Jesus Heals a Deaf Man with a Speech Impediment
Jesus had left the coasts of Tyre and Sidon; he came unto the Sea of Galilee, through the midst of the coasts of Decapolis. It was there the crowd brought a deaf man who had a speech impediment and asked Jesus to put His hands upon him. It is by the healing power of Jesus that can heal us from both spiritual deafness and a speech impediment.
Mark 7:31-37
Jesus and His disciples departed from the coasts of Tyre and Sidon, he came unto the Sea of Galilee, through the midst of the coasts of Decapolis.
The people brought unto Jesus one that was deaf, and had an impediment in his speech; and they beseech Jesus to put his hand upon him.
Jesus took him aside from the multitude, and put His fingers into his ears, and He spit, and touched his tongue; Then Jesus looking up to heaven, Jesus sighed, and said unto him, Ephphatha, that is, Be opened.
Straightway his ears were opened, and the string of his tongue was loosed, and he spoke plain.
Jesus charged them that they should tell no man: but the more he charged them, so much the more a great deal they published it;
The multitude of people was beyond astonished, saying, “He hath done all things well: he makes both the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak.”
What Can Be Learned From This Lesson?
This man that was brought to Jesus was deaf and had an impediment of speech which means he had difficulty speaking. His friends had faith that Jesus could heal this man.
The man was deaf, meaning he could not hear and he had difficulty speaking. This meant the man could have no faith in the healing of Jesus because of his condition. It is good he had friends who had faith in the healing power of Jesus.
If we were deaf with a speech impediment it would require we have faith in the healing power of Jesus. Jesus would have remove the reason for our deafness and then touch our tongue so we then could speak.
Just like this man was healed we also can be healed from Spiritual deafness. If there is Spiritual deafness then the words that would come out of our mouths would nasty, mean offensive and even hateful words. Jesus can heal this condition. Those that are of the LORD God hear His words; those who do not hear the Word of God are not of God. (John 8:47).
It is by the healing power of Jesus that can heal us from both spiritual deafness and a speech impediment. Next it is important to be willing to hear the Word of God. The man was healed his ears opened, and the string of his tongue was loosed and he spoke plainly.
