Jesus Heals Peter’s Mother-in–Law

This lesson is about the healing power of Jesus. Because Jesus healed Peter’s mother in law we know that Jesus has the authority to heal disease. We need to remember Jesus died on a cross to pay the punishment for the wrongs that we have done. He suffered for us. Then, Jesus was buried. The greatest news if all is that three days later, Jesus came back to life. Because He is alive, we know that He can take away all our sins. This miracle shows us that if we believe in Jesus, one day, He will take us to heaven with Him.
Matthew 8:14-15 ; Luke 4:38-39; Mark 1:29-31

After Jesus healed the possessed man in the synagogue in Capernaum, He and His disciples went over to Simon and Andrews’s home.

Jesus found Simons mother-in-law sick in bed with a high fever. Jesus took her by the hand and helped her sit up.

Jesus rebuked the fever and suddenly left her. She got up and prepared dinner for them.

What Can Be Learned From This Lesson?

This lesson is about the healing power of Jesus. Because Jesus healed Peter’s mother in law we know that Jesus has the authority to heal disease. Matthew 4:23 reminds us the mission of Jesus “And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.”

Jesus knew He would not always be with His disciples on the earth. So Jesus called His disciples to Him and gave them the power to heal. Matthew 10:1 tells us: “And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease.”

Jesus tell us also that people whose heart has become dull and they do not hear with their ears nor do they see with their eyes and have no understanding with their heart they must be converted. This means they must turn to worshipping, loving and being obedience of the true LORD God. This is when they can be healed. (Matthew 13:15)

Just because we are followers of Jesus does not mean you or your family is guaranteed to free from sickness. Sickness can be used to teach us what to do with our health. Jesus rebuked the fever which means that the disease that caused the fever was due to probably by evil.

Romans 8:28 reminds us that LORD God can bring about good from any situation. Many people look back on times of sickness as times when they grew closer to the LORD God. Some have learned to trust Him more. Others have learned how to truly value life. This does not mean sickness is always from the LORD God or that He always inflicts us with sickness to teach us a spiritual lesson or to punish us for disobedience.

Our world is tainted by sin, sickness, disease, and death this has always been and will always be with us. We are fallen beings, with physical bodies prone to disease and illness. Some sickness is simply a result of the natural course of things in this world. Sickness can also be the result of an evil attack. The Bible describes several instances when physical suffering was caused by Satan and his demons we will see more of these later in the Miracles of Jesus. (Matthew 17:14-18; Luke 13:10-16).

Even when sickness is not directly from the LORD God, He will still use it according to His perfect will. We must all have faith and trust in the powers of Jesus and most of all in His love for us.

If we believe on His name and receives Jesus shall become the sons of God. (John 1:12)

John 3:15-16 “That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
