Jesus Taught in Parables
Jesus taught in parables in his preaching and teaching because some of the things He taught were only for the ears of the disciples. We are also disciples of Jesus. Disciples are learners and pupil of Jesus Christ. The mysteries of the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to us because we have eyes to see, hears to hear and by studying His words we have understand in our hearts.
Matthew 13: 10-17; Mark 4:11-12
Jesus went about His earthly ministry preaching and teaching. Frequently He used parables when there were great multitudes present. The disciples ask Jesus why he taught in parables.
Jesus answered them by saying it was because the teachings are given unto to the disciples to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to the multitude it is not given.
Whoever has, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever has not, from him shall be taken away even that he has.
This is the reason Jesus spoke in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.
In them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah which says, “By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive:”
“And he said, Go, and tell this people, Hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive not. Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and convert, and be healed.” (Isaiah 6:9-10)
Jesus continued to explain that the heart of people have grown fatten or made stupid, their soul has become dull. Their ears are dull of hearing, their eyes have closed.
Jesus also said in Matthew 13:15 that if at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted and Jesus should heal them.
Jesus told the disciples “blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear.” That many prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things which you see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which you hear, and have not heard them.
What Does This Story Teach Us?
Jesus taught in parables to hide the truth from those who really did not want to hear or see the truth. Jesus simply is says that He spoke in Parables so that people would not understand what He was saying to His disciples.
Jesus tells us in John 8:47, “He that is of God heareth God’s words; ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.”
We must be like the disciples and want to know the secrets of the kingdom of Heaven we need to believe on Jesus Christ as our Savior and the Bible can become opened to us. We need to trust the Lord Jesus Christ as our personal Savior and we shall be saved (Acts 16:31).
Jesus hid the truth and knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven from those who are not receptive to the truth by speaking in parables. Jesus also tells us that if at any time we should see with our eyes, hear with our ears, and should have understanding in our heart we will be healed by Jesus.
We are also disciples of Jesus. Disciples are learners and pupil of Jesus Christ. The mysteries of the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to us because we have eyes to see, hears to hear and by studying His words we have understand in our hearts.
