The Birth of Jesus
“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” Let us all Praise the LORD for sending us His only Son Jesus Christ our Lord for our Savior. We could never make it through life without HIM. (Isaiah 9:6).
Luke 1 and Luke 2
The angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary.
And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, you are highly favored, the Lord is with thee: blessed are you among women. Gabriel told Mary she would conceive and have a son and she shall call his name JESUS.
He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.
Joseph who was a carpenter, the husband of Mary, was a just man, and didn’t understand Mary having a baby. One night and angel came to Joseph in a dream and told Joseph not to be afraid to take Mary as his wife, she conceived by the Holy Ghost. When Joseph work up he took Mary as his wife. (Matthew 1:19-24)
Mary and Joseph were married. Then one day they had to travel to Bethlehem to pay their taxes because it was a decree from Caesar Augustus. It was a long journey. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; because he was of the house and lineage of David:
When they arrived in Bethlehem, there was no place for them at the inn. They spent the night in the stable. That night the baby Jesus was born. And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord.
The angel said this shall be a sign unto you; You shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
When the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord has made known unto us. They came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.
And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child. And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds. And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.
Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, they told Herod they had seen his star in the east, and came to worship him. This did not make Herod happy. Herod sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also.
The wise men departed from the king and saw the star which led them to Jesus. They rejoiced with exceeding great joy. When they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh. They were warned by God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way. (Matthew 2:1- 12)
What Can This Story Teach us?
Jesus was born into this world just like you and I were. He had a mother and a family. Just like you and I do. When Jesus was once told His mother and brothers were outside Jesus said:
“For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.” (Matthew 12:48)
You see if we are doing the will of the Father which is in heaven then we are the brothers and sisters of Jesus. He understands us and understands our every need because He was born just like us. He has experienced our pain, sadness and tears. He also has experienced our happiness and our joys. Jesus loves us!
