Benjamin is the son of Jacob and Rachel. Jacob journeyed to Bethel near Ephrath when Rachel had gone into hard labor. Rachel knew she was having a son, so she named him Benoni meaning son of my sorrow. Jacob renamed him Benjamin, meaning son of my right hand, after the death of Rachel. Rachel died and was buried in the way to Ephrath, which is Bethlehem.
