Jesus Heals a Man Born Blind

This lesson is about a man that was born blind at birth. We get an important insight about blindness. When a person is born blind it is so the works of God should be manifested in them. Those that hear the word of the Lord Jesus Christ and believe on the LORD God will have everlasting life. They shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
John 9:1-41

Jesus had passed by and saw a man which had been blind from his birth. The disciples asked Jesus who had sinned, this man, or his parents, that he had been born blind.

Jesus answered them saying; neither has this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him. Jesus said He must work the works of His Father who had sent Him, while it is day. Jesus also said that the night comes when no man can work.
Jesus said in verse 5: “As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” Jesus then spat on the ground, and made clay of the spit, and then Jesus anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay.
Jesus told the man blind at birth to go wash in the pool of Siloam, (which is by interpretation, Sent.) The blind man went his way, and washed, and came back seeing.

The neighbors and others that knew him before and knew him to be blind were confused and others thought it was just someone who looked like the man blind at birth. The man who had been born at birth told them it was him.
They asked him how his eyes had been opened and he could now see? He answered and said, “A man that is called Jesus made clay, and anointed mine eyes, and said unto me, Go to the pool of Siloam, and wash: and I went and washed, and I received sight.”

They brought the man blind at birth to the Pharisees. It was the Sabbath day when Jesus made the clay, and opened the blind man’s eyes. The Blind man told the Pharisees what Jesus had done. Some of the Pharisees proclaimed, that Jesus was not of God, because he kept not the Sabbath day. Others said, how can a man that is a sinner do such miracles? And there was a division among them. They asked the blind man who he says of him that opened his eyes. He said Jesus is a prophet.

But the Jews did not believe this man had been born blind at birth and then received his sight so they called the parents of him that had received his sight. They asked the parents if their son had been born blind and how is it now that he can see.

His parents answered them and said we know that this is our son, and that he was born blind: but they did not know how his eyes were opened. They told the Pharisees that their son was of age, they should ask him and he could speak for himself. These words spoke his parents, because they feared the Jews: for the Jews had agreed already, that if any man did confess that he was Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue.

The questioning continued that the Pharisees tried to get the once blind man to give praise to God because they claimed Jesus was a sinner because He healed on the Sabbath. The blind man said he did not know if Jesus was a sinner or not, all he knew was he was blind and now he can see.

The Pharisees tried to get the blind man to denounce his healing. But the blind man continued to tell them what had happened. Then he said to the Pharisees why is this a marvelous thing, that you know not where Jesus came from, yet it was Jesus who restored his sight. God does not hear sinners, but if any man be a worshipper of God, and does his will, then he God will hear.

The man continues to say since the world began was it not heard that any man opened the eyes of one that was born blind. If this man were not of God, he could do nothing. With that the Pharisees cast him out.
Jesus heard that the Pharisees had cast him out; and when Jesus had found him, he said unto him, Do you believe on the Son of God? He answered and said, who is he, Lord, that I might believe on him?
And Jesus said unto him, you have both seen Him, and it is He that talks with you. The man who had been blind at birth said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped Jesus.

And Jesus said, “For judgment I am come into this world, that they which see not might see; and that they which see might be made blind.” Some of the Pharisees which were with him heard these words, and said unto Jesus, Are we blind also? Jesus said unto them, If you were blind, you should have no sin: but now you say, We see; therefore your sin remains.

What Can Be Learned From This Lesson?

Jesus answered the disciples saying the man born blind had not sinned, nor had his parents sinned. The reason he was blind was so the works of God should be made manifest in him.

Jesus had to do the work the works of His Father who had sent Him, while it is day. Jesus also said that the night comes when no man can work. Jesus knew He was not always going to be on the earth.

We know that Jesus came into this world for judgment. So that those which do not see might see, and those which see might be made blind. If a person is blind they do not see the truth so they have no sin, if a person sees and understands then they remain in sin.

John 3:17 tells us “For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.” Then again in John 5:24 tells us: “ Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
