Man Lowered Down the Roof Top
This is a story of four men who loved their friend so much and trusted in the healing power of Jesus that they cut a hole in the roof and lowered their friend down to Jesus. We need to have trust and faith in the healing power of Jesus and know that He has the power on earth to forgive our sin.
Mark 2:1-12
Jesus and His disciple entered into Capernaum and word got out that Jesus was in a certain house. Jesus was preaching to the people. There were many who gathered together in that house that there was no more room for any other people.
There were four men who had come to see Jesus that day. They brought their friend with them who was sick with palsy. Palsy meant that this man disabled and paralyzed. He could not walk.
There were many people who were there to hear Jesus speak to them. The crowd was too big for the man and his friends to get in the house to see Jesus. They knew that Jesus would heal their friend if they could only get in to see Jesus.
The four men carried their friend, who was on a mat because he could not walk, up to the roof. They started tearing away the rooftop to make a large hole right above the head of Jesus.
Then they lowered their friend down through the hole of the roof and he came to rest right in front of Jesus. When Jesus saw their faith Jesus said to the man sick of palsy. “Son, thy sins be forgiven thee.”
Suddenly the man felt strength coming back into this arms and legs. He rose up and he was so surprised that he could move. He jumped off the mat and walked right through the crowd praising God because he was healed.
It was in one miracle moment that Jesus took away this man’s sickness and his sin. The man was so happy. There were some among the crowd that were not happy. They were the scribes were men who were skilled in the law and had the responsibility to solve difficult questions. They didn’t trust Jesus and didn’t understand why Jesus would say the man’s sins were forgiven.
What Jesus ask these scribes were “Whether is it easier to say to the sick of the palsy, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and take up thy bed, and walk?” This was done so the people would know that Jesus had the power on earth to forgive sins.
When the man with palsy heard Jesus say; “Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house.” The man with palsy immediately arose, took up the bed, and went forth before all the people in the crowd. All the people were amazed and they immediately glorified God.
What Can We Learn From This Lesson?
We should understand that Jesus was given the power on earth to forgive our sins. This is important for us to know that there is nothing that we can do and there is no one else who can forgive our sins. It takes the power of Jesus who died for us to forgive sins.
We must always remember to be a good example just like Jesus is our example. Without us even realizing it there are people who watch us and trying to find why we are different. We are different because we belong to Jesus.
Another lesson we need to learn is that we can all lead our friends to Jesus. This is done by telling them about Jesus and by being honest and trust worthy friends.
