King David Brings Up the Ark
This lesson tells about King David bringing the Ark of God to Jerusalem. King David is one of the most important figures in Jewish history. He reigned as king of Israel for 40 years. Many people want to focus only on the weaknesses of the life of David. The truth is David worked hard on being obedient and humble before the LORD God. We can learn from his action and emulate them in our relationship with the LORD. 2 Samuel 6:1-19.
David was chosen by the LORD God as a young boy. He did not become king over Judah and Israel right away in fact it was 20 years later after the death of Saul. David was 30 years old he was anointed king over both Judah and Israel.
David gathered together all the chosen men of Israel, thirty thousand. David and his men went out to get the ark of God, whose name is called by the name of the LORD of hosts that dwells between the cherubim’s on the ark.
They set the ark of God upon a new cart and brought it onto a new cart. Then David and the house of Israel played before the LORD on all manner of instruments made of fir wood, even on harps, and on psalteries, and on timbrels, and on cornets, and on cymbals.
One of the men put his hands on the ark of God, because the oxen shook it. The anger of the LORD was against Uzzah; and God smote him there for his mistake; and there he died by the ark of God.
David was afraid of the LORD that day, and didn’t know how he was going to move the ark of the LORD. So David would not remove the ark of the LORD into the city of David which is Jerusalem.
The ark of the LORD stayed in the house of Obededom the Gittite for three months: and the LORD blessed Obededom, and all his household. Obededom the Gittite was a Levite and a Gittite who kept the ark after Uzzah was slain by God for touching the ark while it was being taken to Jerusalem.
King David saw that the LORD had blessed Obededom and his household because he kept the ark. So David went and brought the ark of God from his house into the city of David, Jerusalem, with gladness.
When those that bare the ark of the LORD had gone six paces, David sacrificed oxen and fatlings. Then David danced before the LORD with all his might; and David was girded with a linen ephod.
So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the LORD with shouting, and with the sound of the trumpet. The wife of David, Michal the daughter of Saul looked through a window, and saw King David leaping and dancing before the LORD; and she despised him in her heart.
They brought in the ark of the LORD, and set it in his place, in the midst of the tabernacle that David had pitched for it: and David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the LORD. Then he blessed the people in the name of the LORD of hosts.
Everyone was happy, expect Michael who met David and was really angry and called him shameless. And David said unto Michal, It was before the LORD, which chose me before your father, and before all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the LORD, over Israel: therefore will I play before the LORD.
What Can This Story Teach Us?
The LORD God promised that His kingdom would remain in the family of David forever. Jesus was born from the family of David. The kingdom of the LORD God was established in David.
King David is one of the most important figures in Jewish history. He reigned as king of Israel for 40 years. Many people want to focus only on the weaknesses of the life of David. The truth is David worked hard on being obedient and humble before the LORD God.
We should strive to be like David and work on our relationship with the LORD God. We can see the relationship that David had by reading His writings collected in the Psalms.
David wrote many wonders for poems all special writings to the LORD. One of my favorites is: “The Lord is my shepherd I shall not want He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.” (Psalm 23:1-6)
