Jacob Stairway to Heaven

This story is a wonderful reminder that no matter what happens in our lives the LORD God is always with us and will watch over us in all that we do. Remembering this will help children conquer their fears as they learn to have faith and trust in the LORD.  Genesis 28:10-22

Jacob received the blessing and birthright instead of his older brother Esau. Jacobs’s mother, Rebekah, heard Esau had said he would kill Jacob. Rebekah went to Isaac and told him that Jacob was going to Haran to the house of her brother, Laban, to find a godly wife. So Isaac blessed Jacob with the blessings of Abraham and sent him on his way.

One night Jacob spent the night out under the stars. Because the sun was already set he spread his blanket across the ground and took a stone as a pillow and fell asleep.

Jacob had a dream that a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to the heaven. There were angels of the LORD God ascending and descending on this ladder. The LORD God stood on the top of the stairway. He said, I am the LORD God of Abraham your father, and the God of Isaac: the land whereon you lie, to you I will give it, and to your children.

The LORD God also told Jacob; all the people on earth will be blessed because of him and his family. And the children of Jacob shall be as the dust of the earth, and they shall spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: and in Jacob and in his children shall all the families of the earth be blessed.

The LORD God will watch over him and no matter where he goes, the LORD will be with him and will keep him in all places where ever he goes, the LORD will always bring Jacob and his children again into this land; for LORD God will not leave Jacob, until He has done that which the LORD has spoken Jacob to do.

Jacob woke up out of his sleep frightened. He said “Surely the LORD is in this place; and I knew it not.” Early the next morning Jacob arose and took the stone he had used as a pillow and poured oil over it and set it as a reminder to the whole world that the LORD God had been there.

Jacob called the name of that place Bethel: but the name of that city was called Luz at the first. Jacob vowed a vow, saying, “If the LORD God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on, so that I come again to my father’s house in peace; then shall the LORD be my God: And this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God’s house: and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee.”

What This Story Teaches Us?

This story is a wonderful reminder that no matter what happens in our lives the LORD God is always with us and will watch over us in all that we do. Remembering this will help children conquer their fears as they learn to have faith and trust in the LORD.

Later we are going to learn who Jacob becomes to be. And then you will better understand the importance of knowing the love of the LORD God for us. I have just as hint for you right now is that Jacob and his sons becomes the nation of Israel.

Did you know that we have been adopted into the Family of the LORD God because of the Son of God, our Savior Jesus Christ? So what that means to you and me is that the promises God made to the chosen people, the Children of Israel or the Jews are also ours.
