Responsibility for Christian Woman in Today’s Society:

Titus 2:3-15 helps to spell out the responsibility for Christian women in our society today. Older Christian women are to teach younger Christian women on the ways of the LORD. Women of Christ have the role of being a helpmate to their husbands, children and most of all being a helpmate to the needs of the LORD.
Titus 2:3-15

We as Christian women of Christ need to remember we are being watched by the outside world. We offer something the world wants and does not know how to achieve. It is that honest conviction, the way of life that we offer those in our lives. We do this by following after the teachings of Christ. Even when life throws us a curve ball we are still able to know we are not alone and can rest in the arms of Jesus. Then go forward in our life to achieve what we need to achieve. Luke 18:27 “And he said, the things which are impossible with men are possible with God. “

Women in today’s society are required to be many things to many people. We are daughters, wives, mothers, career women, sisters, grandmothers. The list goes on and one we have had to become supper moms trying to juggle homes and obligations with families. We have had to become coaches, cooks, psychologists, nurse, organizers even teachers. This can be overwhelming.

Today it requires a two person pay check to make ends meet. That means the woman had to start going out in the work force. This has cause a conflict between raising a family and paying bills. Then there are the single families who do not have the choice to stay at home. We cannot forget we are still called by the LORD God to nurture and raise our children and care for the affairs of the home. (Proverbs 31). It is a tremendous responsibility to teach and train their children to live Godly lives.

It is important to remember as women of Christ our role is that of a helpmate. It may be necessary to work outside the home as a helpmate but we need to remember our divine calling. Please do not get me wrong I am not saying you are nothing if you are not a wife or a mother. I am saying there is no shame of being a wife and mother. When a woman is comfortable in their “own skin” then they become great examples to follow.

It is important to remember that throughout the history of women in the Bible there were many women that were respected and worked outside the home. There was famous example of women who held national leadership positions. Miriam was the sister of Moses and a leader. (Exodus 15:20-21). Deborah also was a judge of Israel and a wife. (Judges 4-5:4). There was prophetess who helped lead Israel to national repentance such as Huldah. (2 Kings 22:8-20). Anna was a prophetess in the New Testament and had been married. (Luke 2:36-37). The point here is women have been used by the LORD God all throughout history of ancient Israel.

Women should never forget that we are equally created by the LORD God. Genesis 2:18 tells us; “And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.” The role of man and woman were both created in the image of the LORD, both have the same potential and both are to work together for the same goal. There is no mention of superiority.

Genuine Christian men and women alike grow together for the glory of the LORD God. They both know they are joint heirs with Christ and they strive to follow Him in all that they do. True Christian men honor their wives, and even older women as mothers and younger women as sisters in Christ. Both Christian men and women try to develop their minds and heart to seek after the will of the LORD.

Titus 2:3-15 helps to spell out the responsibility for Christian women in our society today. Aged women should have the demeanor or should conduct themselves as being holy. They should not be false accusers, being prone to slander or lying. They should not be given too much wine which means they should not drink too much. The aged women should be a teacher of good things.

The aged Christian woman is to teach the younger women to be sober. This means to teach the younger women to be moderate, disciple and to hold to their duty. Younger Christian women are to be taught to love their husbands, and to love their children. They are to be discreet, which is being of sound mind, sane. They are to curb their desires and impulses, and hold to self-control. The young Christian woman is to love their children. One would think that was a given. Today this needs to be taught.

How many times have we read in the newspaper of women who have killed their children? Who would have guessed that mothers could walk away and abandon their babies and young children? Something had had to be done to get back to the basics of training our young Christian women on not only marital counseling but also on basic child care. That can only come from the aged Christian women.

Young Christian women need to learn how to be discreet and practicing self-control which results in the restriction of desires and impulses. A great example of restricting the desires and impulses would be having sex before marriage. This is accepted in our time and in our society especially by the worldly. The young Christian women need to be chaste which again implies a moral cleanliness and having that special relationship with the Lord and for the Lord.

Another responsibility for the Christian woman in our society today is that need to be taught to be a keeper at home. This is caring for the house, working at home and taking care of household affairs. There has been a question from women forever and that is if it is okay for women to have a job outside the home. There is no Bible verse that forbids working outside the home. There are numerous examples of women who are capacitable of maintain their obligation of home and family and also working outside the home. It is okay for a woman to work especially if she can meet the responsibilities of caring for the home. This is possible today than ever before in history because of the modern appliances, children going to schools younger, and most of all because it is expected for women to work outside the home. It becomes wrong for a woman to work outside the home when it causes a woman to neglect her husband, children, or the mission that LORD has placed on her.

When a Christian woman can work outside the home and still provide a loving, caring environment for her children and husband, and the LORD then it is perfectly appropriate for her to work outside the home. Women who work outside the home should not be condemned, and neither should women who focus on the obligation of husband, children and the running of the home should not be treated with disdain.

Titus 2:5 continues to say that a Christian woman needs to be good. This means having a good nature, being upright and honorable. They are too be obedient to their own husbands. The reason for this is that the word of God be not blasphemed. Christian women are to not speak evil or speak reproachfully about the word of God.

The greatest responsibility for a Christian woman in our society today is that she simply has to be a woman and be comfortable being a woman. It is a matter being comfortable declaring her role as a wife and mother and a spokesman for the Lord. Christian women need to be proud of their softness and true femininity. Worldly women need to be loud, beer guzzling, swearing, cigarette smokers who can out curse a sailor.

The LORD has ordained Christian women the privilege and the responsibility to perform one of the most important purposes and that is the powerful role of being teacher, trainer and nurturer of their children to become future leaders, future kings and priests and most of all followers of the LORD God. They are the helpers of their husband and children so they may grow and share the same destiny to boldly the grace of God that brings salvation and has appeared to all men. Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. (Titus 2:11-15).
