Eve the Wife of Adam

Eve is the first woman we will study because she was the first. She was created as a helpmate for Adam. Because of Eve there are many lessons for Women of Christ to understand. We were created in the image of the LORD just like Adam was. Genesis 1-5

And the man said, “This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.”—Genesis 2:23- 24.

And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat; and she gave also unto her husband with her, and he did eat.—Genesis 3:6.

The story of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden is more than a historical narrative or a sweet little children story. We have much to learn from Eve. First we know that she was created from the flesh and rib of Adam. We also know this was the first example that the Lord God did institute marriage. Women were created by the Lord God to be a helpmate for the man. The Lord God created men and women in His image. It was not just men but women also. Man was not complete without women. Equally it must be said woman were not created to be alone and are not compete without men. (Genesis 1:27-2:18).

The temptation of Adam and Eve represents the body and the soul as well as the spirit. Eve saw the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the fruit of the tree was desired to make them wise. (Genesis 3:6). Eve warns us not to use our eyes as a temptation to the mind. The awareness of beauty can lead to lust and greed. Eve wanted wisdom before she was ready for it. Knowledge and wisdom without God makes men look like fools. The knowledge of good and evil brings for the man toil of a cursed ground. Man shall eat in sorrow all the days of his life. Thrones and thistles shall the land bring forth and man shall eat the herb of the field. The knowledge of good and evil brings women to have great sorrow, pain and hardship in childbirth. She shall desire her husband and he shall have dominion over her. (Genesis 3:16-20).

It didn’t end there Eve also experienced the heartbreak of a child that went wrong. Eve gave birth to Cain and Able. Two strong sons; Cain a tiller of the ground, Abel was a keeper of sheep. When it came time to bring the offerings unto the LORD Abel brought the firstling of his flock; this gained respect from the LORD. Cain brought the fruit of the ground unto the LORD of which he did not gain respect from the LORD. We well remember that Cain slew Able out of jealousy for his brother. (Genesis 4:1-16). How this must have broken the heart of Eve. One son was dead and the other was driven out as a vagabond. Later Adam and Eve did have other sons and daughters. (Genesis 5:4).

Eve understood and is a good example in the understanding that being obedient to the Will of the Lord God can bring a great life of bliss. When you are disobedient to the Will of the Lord God you experience the calamities and hardship of life. The joy Eve must have felt with the birth of her first born became a pain in her heart when he slew his brother. We must stay obedient to the Will of the Lord God and make sure our husband and children also remains obedient.

We are reminded in 1 Timothy 2:15 “Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.” The “she” is Eve, woman, shall be saved (rescue from danger or destruction; delivered from the penalties of the Messianic judgment) by continuing to be faithful in faith, love, and holiness with soundness of mind and self-control. It is impossible to please the Lord God without faith, it would be impossible to obey the Lord God without love.

There is salvation for those lost in sin; both men and women, through the birth of Jesus Christ, life of Jesus Christ, the shedding of blood by the same Jesus Christ and by His death. Hebrews 9:28 reminds us; “So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.” It is through the blood of Jesus Christ that we can be all be saved unto salvation.

Eve was the beginning for all women to reflect what happens when you disobey the LORD God. There is also encouragement just knowing that women were created to be a help mate is a new direction for many women. Women were not created to be alone without a man. This does go against what this society tells us. The LORD God created marriage man did no.
