Adam and Eve
Adam and Eve is a beautiful story about the Love God has for His people. Children should understand that God established marriage for His people so they would not be lonely. The story of Adam and Eve also teaches children we were given the responsibility to care for God’s creation.
Genesis 2: 1-25
There were great animals in the seas and lakes. They were exciting to watch splashing in the water and swimming through the reefs. It was all good.
There were beautiful fields of flowers and elegant butterfly floating in the fields. There were even tall trees swaying in the wind giving shade to the farm animals. It was all good.
Lord God also made the strong animals in the deserts like lions and elephants. The World He created was grand. Yet, something was missing. Lord God needed to create a man to talk to and someone He could love and who could love Him.
Lord God created Adam out of the dust of the ground and He put His breath into Adam. Man was made in the image of God. He put Adam in charge of naming all the animals, birds in the air and fish in the sea. Adam was to also take care of the animals and the creation that God had made.
The Lord God put Adam into a beautiful garden called the Garden of Eden. There Adam was to labor to work the garden and keep it. Adam was told he could eat of every tree of the Garden of Eden except one. That was the tree of knowledge of good and evil. If he ate of this tree he would die.
Adam was kept busy naming and caring for all the animals, but, he was lonely. Adam told God he was lonely and he needed someone to help him with all the work. The LORD God said, ìIt is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. (Genesis 2:18).
And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh. From that rib the LORD God created woman and brought her to Adam.
Adam was happy and said; ìThis is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. (Genesis 2:23). Adam named his wife Eve because she was the mother of all living. (Genesis 3:20).
Adam was no longer lonely because he now had a helpmate. This was the first marriage. The Lord God said about marriage that a man shall leave his father and his mother, and shall cling or join to each other and shall be as one flesh. (Genesis 2:23). That was the Lord God’s intention for marriage.
What Can This Story Teach Us?
There are many lessons we need to learn from the story of Adam and Eve. The first is that God created man in His own image. If we are created in the image of the Lord God then we are special and should grow toward Him who created us.
It was the Lord God who created marriage between a man and a woman. They are to be helpmates and help each other grow toward the Lord God. They were given the responsibility to care for God’s creation together.
