According to the LORD God the Israelites could eat deer because the deer chews the cud and divides the hoof. Deer are care for by the LORD God. The wild deer are fleet of foot and swift. Deer are used symbolically.
The fifth day the LORD God commanded the earth to bring creatures and the cattle was mentioned. Man would have dominion over them. Calves were used for a sacrifice sin offering. Cattle were used for food. Cattle/ Calf were also used symbolically.
Old Testament families are made up of parents, children, unmarried sisters, widows, concubines, servants, travelers, strangers and the cattle all falls under the protection of the head of the family.
Tamar became the wife of the oldest son of Judah who was wicked in the sight of the LORD; and the LORD slew him. The second son of Judah, Onan, by Levirate Law was to marry Tamar and give her a child and raise it for Er. Onan refused and this angered the LORD God and he slew him. Sarah wanted to give Abraham a son so the covenant between the LORD God and Abraham would be fulfilled and that Abraham would be the “father of many nations.” Sarah was trying to control her destine as well as that of Abraham. It was not in her timing, nor was it in the timing of Abraham that he should become the “father of many nations”. The timing belongs to the LORD. Timing always belongs to the LORD.

Sarah shows us many different sides of the lives of being a woman. She was beautiful, faithful, loving, courageous, jealous, and strong willed, yet a loyal wife and a giving mother. There are many things we can learn from Sarah. First, we shall look at the name change from Sarai to Sarah.
Ruth was from Moab, east of the Jordan; Naomi was from Bethlehem, south of Jerusalem. Ruth remained compassionate, loyal, brave, faithful, and a virtuous woman, trusting, and was blessed by the LORD God.
Today there are discussions about polygamy being acceptable because it was sanctioned in the Old Testament. What people do not stop to think about is the fact that starting with Abraham the Israelites were building a nation.
