The LORD GOD's Spirits of Understanding, Wisdom

And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, See, I have called by name Bezaleel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah: And I have filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship, To devise cunning works, to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass, And in cutting of stones, to set them, and in carving of timber, to work in all manner of workmanship. And I, behold, I have given with him Aholiab, the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan: and in the hearts of all that are wise hearted I have put wisdom, that they may make all that I have commanded thee; The tabernacle of the congregation, and the ark of the testimony, and the mercy seat that is thereupon, and all the furniture of the tabernacle, And the table and his furniture, and the pure candlestick with all his furniture, and the altar of incense, And the altar of burnt offering with all his furniture, and the laver and his foot, And the cloths of service, and the holy garments for Aaron the priest, and the garments of his sons, to minister in the priest’s office, And the anointing oil, and sweet incense for the holy place: according to all that I have commanded thee shall they do. Spirit of Understanding

To understand this significance, you must first know a little bit of history. One of our future books in the “Guided Bible Studies for Hungry Christians” series will go into great detail and reveal the typology concerning this. Until then, a brief overview will allow you to gain a deeper understanding of the Tabernacle and Temple.

The Tabernacle of the Congregation was the first of three Holy sanctuaries where the LORD GOD could fill with His Presence. The Tabernacle was built to contain the Ark of the Covenant. This Ark could be filled with the actual presence of the LORD GOD, and was holy. A place was established where divine service and sacrifice for sins could be accomplished by the LORD GOD’s people. This Tabernacle looked like a very large canvas tent, and it consisted of two holy rooms inside; the outer room was where the head priest only could enter after a detailed ritual cleansing; the inner room was the holiest of the holies, and contained the Ark of the Covenant, where the LORD GOD could go. There were basins, altars and wooden restraints in the courtyard and the entire complex was surrounded by a fabric fence.

Once a year, all of the LORD GOD’s people would gather together at the Tabernacle. That is why it is called the Tabernacle of the Congregation. Each family would have a tent, and all of the families of each tribe of Israel would set up their tents in designated areas, with the Tabernacle of the Congregation in the middle of their camps.

They came to the Tabernacle of the Congregation to be forgiven of their sins by the LORD GOD, so they might be allowed to live with and be considered one of His People for the coming year. The procedures to do this were laid out precisely to all of His people, and enforced by priests who played an integral part in the process of sacrificing blood for the redemption of the LORD GOD’s people.

The Jews gathered around the tabernacle and set up their individual tents for their families to partake in the ceremony and receive the forgiveness of the LORD GOD for past sins. This is the way it worked...

The head of each tent (Husband, Father, Brother) would gather their individual families together, and speak about the LORD GOD’s laws to them. They would go over the details in depth of their life during the past year. Each family member would confess to the head man their sins against the LORD GOD’s law. The head man would have brought a lamb, pure and young, with him for this journey, and at the appropriate time, he would lead the lamb to the opening of the fence to enter the Tabernacle complex.

The man would be greeted by a priest outside of the Tabernacle, and directed to a sacrifice altar where his lamb would be placed. The man would be required to struggle with the lamb as he secured the lamb to planks in preparation for it’s execution. The priests stood as a witness that each of the LORD GOD’s edicts concerning this process were carried out completely. They did not participate in the struggles between the lamb and the man.

When the lamb was secured, the man remembered each of the sins that were given to him by his family. He carefully recounted each as he laid his hand upon the lamb, and transferred all of the violations of God’s law his family had done in that past year. When all of the sins were transferred to the lamb, the priest handed the man a knife, and the man took the knife and slit the throat of the once innocent, but now, convicted lamb who bore his and his families sins.

Once the sacrifice was completed, the priest would take the lamb and prepare it according to the LORD GOD’s law. The meat of the lamb would be burnt upon the altar, so that the smoke of the lamb could be seen by the LORD GOD and all men that a sacrifice had taken place. If the LORD GOD accepted the sacrifice, his presence would fill the Ark that set inside the Holiest of Holy parts of the Tabernacle. This presence would emit a brilliant light that would come from the heavens and lead to the Ark. When the families and tribes saw this light, they would know with faith and confidence that their sins were forgiven for another year and they could remain as one of the LORD GOD’s people another year. Joy came to them and an air of celebration began amongst the families and tribes.

But.... not all celebrated. A deep and agonizing woe came to those who had their sacrifice rejected! If they had not placed all of their sins on that lamb, if they had not done the sacrifice in accordance with the LORD GOD’s Will, or if He chose not to forgive them of a sin, His presence would leave the Ark. The resulting darkness revealed the remaining sin that clung to the man and his family. Immediately, the man would be expelled from the tabernacle courtyard. His tribe would evict him and his family from their presence as quickly, as they would not want to risk causing the wrath of the LORD GOD to come upon them.

Bezaleel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah was to prepare, organize and build the Tabernacle of the Congregation, the Ark of the Testimony, the Mercy Seat and the furniture was chosen by the LORD GOD to complete this work. The LORD GOD filled him with the Spirits of Knowledge, Understanding and Wisdom to complete this job to perfection. It was critical that all areas of the Tabernacle be in accordance with the LORD GOD’s Will. If the work was not done according to the specifications of the LORD GOD, then many tragic events could have taken place .....from the inability of the LORD GOD to forgive the Jews of their sins.......to men dying because the presence of the LORD GOD was close to them without the protection of Ark of the Covenant in the inner room, in the outer room in the Tabernacle, in the courtyard......all separated to protect them from His Glorious Presence.

And Moses said unto the children of Israel, See, the LORD hath called by name Bezaleel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah; And he hath filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship; And to devise curious works, to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass, And in the cutting of stones, to set them, and in carving of wood, to make any manner of cunning work. And he hath put in his heart that he may teach, both he, and Aholiab, the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan. Them hath he filled with wisdom of heart, to work all manner of work, of the engraver, and of the cunning workman, and of the embroiderer, in blue, and in purple, in scarlet, and in fine linen, and of the weaver, even of them that do any work, and of those that devise cunning work. (Exodus 35:30-35 AV)

Then wrought Bezaleel and Aholiab, and every wise hearted man, in whom the LORD put wisdom and understanding to know how to work all manner of work for the service of the sanctuary, according to all that the LORD had commanded. And Moses called Bezaleel and Aholiab, and every wise hearted man, in whose heart the LORD had put wisdom, even every one whose heart stirred him up to come unto the work to do it: And they received of Moses all the offering, which the children of Israel had brought for the work of the service of the sanctuary, to make it withal. And they brought yet unto him free offerings every morning. And all the wise men, that wrought all the work of the sanctuary, came every man from his work which they made; And they spake unto Moses, saying, The people bring much more than enough for the service of the work, which the LORD commanded to make. And Moses gave commandment, and they caused it to be proclaimed throughout the camp, saying, Let neither man nor woman make any more work for the offering of the sanctuary. So the people were restrained from bringing. For the stuff they had was sufficient for all the work to make it, and too much. (Exodus 36:1-7 AV)

Then verily the first covenant had also ordinances of divine service, and a worldly sanctuary. For there was a tabernacle made; the first, wherein was the candlestick, and the table, and the shewbread; which is called the sanctuary. And after the second veil, the tabernacle which is called the Holiest of all; Which had the golden censer, and the ark of the covenant overlaid round about with gold, wherein was the golden pot that had manna, and Aaron’s rod that budded, and the tables of the covenant; And over it the cherubims of glory shadowing the mercyseat; of which we cannot now speak particularly. Now when these things were thus ordained, the priests went always into the first tabernacle, accomplishing the service of God. But into the second went the high priest alone once every year, not without blood, which he offered for himself, and for the errors of the people: The Holy Ghost this signifying, that the way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest, while as the first tabernacle was yet standing:

Which was a figure for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience; Which stood only in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed on them until the time of reformation. But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building; Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us. For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh: How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? (Hebrews 9:1-14 AV)

And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots: And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD; And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the LORD: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears: But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked. And righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, and faithfulness the girdle of his reins. The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them. (Isaiah 11:1-6 AV)

What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also. (1 Corinthians 14:15 AV)

And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding. (Job 28:28 AV)

Once again.....the Spirit of Understanding prepares a place to receive the LORD GOD. Part of this preparation requires the absence of evil. The Spirit of Understanding gives the Christian the ability to discern and remove any evil in his body and within his surroundings to prepare for the receiving of the LORD GOD.

Give me understanding, and I shall keep thy law; yea, I shall observe it with my whole heart. (Psalms 119:34 AV)

Thy hands have made me and fashioned me: give me understanding, that I may learn thy commandments. (Psalms 119:73 AV)

Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way. (Psalms 119:104 AV)

The LORD by wisdom hath founded the earth; by understanding hath he established the heavens. (Prov 3:19 AV)

Notice how the Spirit of Wisdom founded the earth, while the Spirit of Understanding established the heavens? Remember...the Spirit of Understanding’s primary duty is to prepare a place for the presence of the LORD GOD. Because the LORD GOD dwells in the heavens, it was the Spirit of Understanding’s duty to prepare and establish it accordingly.

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding. (Prov 9:10 AV)

The heart of him that hath understanding seeketh knowledge: but the mouth of fools feedeth on foolishness. (Prov 15:14 AV)

Through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is established: (Prov 24:3 AV)

And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me. Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures, (Luke 24:44-45 AV)

Yet in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that by my voice I might teach others also, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue. (1 Cor 14:19 AV)

The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, (Ephesians 1:18-20 AV)

This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind, Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart: Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness. (Ephesians 4:17-19 AV)

He does not receive the Spirit of Understanding. Because he is alienated so far from the life of God, his understanding is completely darkened. This condition is often referred to in the LORD GOD’s Word as being “blind”. The complete, typological definition of a blind person as spoken of in the LORD GOD’s Word is...

Blind (Man) - A blind man is inflated with self-conceit, high minded and proud. His eyes are enveloped with smoke causing them to be opaque and impenetrable to light. He is unable to perceive and has no intuitive recognition. He is dull and stupid and unintelligent. Arrogant is his first name and Bore is his last. He has an exaggerated estimate of his own ability and importance. He displays an offensive assumption of superior importance and rights. He is overbearingly assuming and insolently proud. His spiritual awareness is obscured and hazy. Spiritual matters are vague, ambiguous, and unknown to him. He is in the worldly dark and has no concept of the spiritual light.

Thus, the above description of a blind man is the same description of a person without the Spirit of Understanding.

The Spirit of Understanding gives a Christian the ability to understand the LORD GOD’s Scriptures, Will, Laws, Works and Wonders, as well as the ability to prepare a place inside ourselves that the LORD GOD can fill with His presence. Without the Spirit of Understanding, a Christian could not do the LORD GOD’s Will nor receive His glorious presence.

The Spirit of Understanding, however, is not given directly by the LORD GOD to the Christian. He is given in entirety to our Lord Jesus Christ, who sends the Spirit of Understanding to the Christians to bring them closer to Him and the LORD GOD. This shared relationship between Christians and Jesus Christ with the Spirit of Understanding, ensures that the LORD GOD’s Will is accomplished, and guarantees a sanctified place to receive the actual presence of the LORD GOD.

Spirit of Wisdom

And thou shalt make holy garments for Aaron thy brother for glory and for beauty. And thou shalt speak unto all that are wise hearted, whom I have filled with the spirit of wisdom, that they may make Aaron’s garments to consecrate him, that he may minister unto me in the priest’s office. (Exodus 28:2-3 AV)

Garments are clothing that is the outer covering of a body. It was revealed previously in our study that the body is the container of the soul. Therefore, it is easily understood that the typological meaning of garments (or for that matter, all types of clothing) are the "outward appearance of a man" whose soul is covered by both body and cloth.

The LORD GOD wanted the garment to be consecrated, which means "to be made holy." He also specified that "glory" and "beauty" be present in the garments, thus...

The Spirit of Wisdom allows a person of the LORD GOD to be made holy, and filled with glory and beauty in his outward appearance.

It is important to note that a person of the LORD GOD is not made holy to minister to the world...He is made holy to minister to the LORD GOD. A person that has been blessed by the Spirit of Wisdom through the preparation of His outward appearance to one of holiness, beauty and glory, he is then able to assume the office of Priest. To be a Priest means he is able to be a mediator in religious service to the LORD GOD.

A mediator to the LORD GOD is a holy man that is able to share with the LORD GOD concerns of man, while having the ability to also deliver the LORD GOD's Will to the people. Aaron was made a priest and set in the priest's office by the LORD GOD for this very purpose.

Now......to our Catholic friends and our Protestant brothers, an important distinction must be made.

Any man of the LORD GOD who has been made holy, and filled with glory and beauty, through the touch of the Spirit of Wisdom, and placed in the office of priest to mediate between man and the LORD GOD should be honored accordingly. However, care must be taken to ensure that the priest is truly consecrated, and not merely wearing the garments to cover his sins. Furthermore, a Christian must also know that the office of priest is not confined to the Catholic Church, but a true priest will be connected with the "office" of priesthood, and associated with believers who are able to monitor, defend, and uphold his position.

The LORD GOD through His Spirit of Wisdom, will make a man holy and a mediator to whom He Will. The LORD GOD is not restricted by religious practice or superior race. He chooses the Mediators to further His Will and according to their ability to maintain their consecration in the midst of worldly sin.

Catholics - It is vital that you expose the men who hide behind the garments of priesthood. Holiness, glory and beauty cannot be faked, and imposters must be exposed, convicted and removed from your congregation.

Protestants - It is vital that you expose the pretenders among your ranks who suggest they speak for and to the LORD GOD on your behalf. Holiness, glory and beauty cannot be faked, and imposters must be exppsed, convicted and removed from your congregation.

Catholics and Protestants - When you are blessed by the LORD GOD with the presence of a man of God who has been made Holy, and covered with glory and beauty, and you are confident he is a true Priest for the LORD GOD...

UPHOLD HIM.....PRAY FOR HIM....CHERISH HIM.....and PROTECT HIM! What a wonderful and rare opportunity Christians have to receive wise guidance from a man made Holy by the LORD GOD!

IMPORTANT.....It is not necessary for a Christian to go through the Priest to speak to or know the LORD GOD's Will. A Christian has the blessings of the True Mediator, Jesus Christ, to speak on their behalf, and reveal the Will of the LORD GOD. The Priest's Office is representative of this mediation, and is vital for the administering of religious ceremonies on behalf of the ministry to the LORD GOD......BUT A PRIEST IS NOT JESUS CHRIST! All Christians are able to freely come to the LORD GOD through Jesus Christ, and the LORD GOD reveals His Will, Word and Mysteries through Jesus Christ to the Christian! Jesus Christ is a True and Holy Priest of the LORD GOD, and mediates between Him and His People.

Once Jesus Christ became the True Mediator and Priest of the LORD GOD, the Office of Priest became changed. The holy Christian priest would not receive the Spirit of Wisdom directly from the LORD GOD, but through the Spirit of Wisdom that dwelled in Jesus Christ.

Therefore, if a Christian man of the LORD GOD receives the Spirit of Wisdom today, and is made holy, glorified and beautiful for the ministering to the LORD GOD, then that priest receives the Spirit of Wisdom from Jesus Christ. It is the same Spirit that was given previously to Aaron, but the function of the office of Priest is changed.

The true Christian Priest today receives the ability from Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit to wisely mediate the issues, conflicts, and offerings in the congregation of believers. Through this ministry, a priest is attached to the Priestly Office of Jesus Christ, and serving him, while at the same time ministering to the LORD GOD through the Mediation of Jesus Christ.

And Joshua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom; for Moses had laid his hands upon him: and the children of Israel hearkened unto him, and did as the LORD commanded Moses. (Deuteronomy 34:9 AV)

For God giveth to a man that is good in his sight wisdom, and knowledge, and joy: but to the sinner he giveth travail, to gather and to heap up, that he may give to him that is good before God. This also is vanity and vexation of spirit. (Ecclesiastes 2:26 AV)

And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him. (Luke 2:40 AV)

And Jesus increased in widom and stature, and in favour with God and man. (Luke 2:52AV)

Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant. Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led. Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost. Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will. (1 Corinthians 12:1-11 AV)

That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: (Ephesians 1:17 AV)

Because God hath deprived her of wisdom, neither hath he imparted to her understanding. (Job 39:17 AV)

My mouth shall speak of wisdom; and the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding. (Psalms 49:3 AV)

Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom. (Psalms 51:6 AV)

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever. (Psalms 111:10 AV)

The LORD by wisdom hath founded the earth; by understanding hath he established the heavens. (Proverbs 3:19 AV)

O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out! (Romans 11:33 AV)

Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought: But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory: Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ. (1 Corinthians 2:6-16 AV)

This means that a basic learned concept is expounded on further as the student is able to fully comprehend the lesson. The structure of Becker Bible Studies attempts to structure our Workbooks in the same manner, scripture upon scripture, lesson upon lesson, idea upon idea and all built on the Foundation of Jesus Christ.

For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness; (Colossians 1:9-11)

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. (Colossians 3:16 AV)

If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. (James 1:5 AV)

Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom. But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace. (James 3:13-18 AV)

The Spirit of Understanding allows a Christian to prepare a place to receive the LORD GOD. The Spirit of Wisdom gives the Christian the ability to hear the LORD GOD and discern His Will. The two Spirits work hand in hand together, and where The Spirit of Understanding is, so is the Spirit of Wisdom. These two Spirits equip a Christian with the ability to receive the Mysteries of the LORD GOD. These two Spirits are within you today, if you are receiving knowledge from this study. You would not be able to understand the deep things of the LORD GOD revealed in this study if you did not have these two Spirits. Praise the LORD GOD for blessing you with these Spirits, and pray for more of the Spirits of Understanding and Wisdom to be infused into your soul so you might get even more understanding of the deep things of the LORD GOD.
