Spirit of Understanding And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, See, I have called by name Bezaleel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah: And I have filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship, To devise cunning works, to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass, And in cutting of stones, to set them, and in carving of timber, to work in all manner of workmanship. And I, behold, I have given with him Aholiab, the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan: and in the hearts of all that are wise hearted I have put wisdom, that they may make all that I have commanded thee; The tabernacle of the congregation, and the ark of the testimony, and the mercy seat that is thereupon, and all the furniture of the tabernacle, And the table and his furniture, and the pure candlestick with all his furniture, and the altar of incense, And the altar of burnt offering with all his furniture, and the laver and his foot, And the cloths of service, and the holy garments for Aaron the priest, and the garments of his sons, to minister in the priest’s office, And the anointing oil, and sweet incense for the holy place: according to all that I have commanded thee shall they do. (Exodus 31:1-11 AV)458. The LORD GOD filled Bezaleel with the Spirit of Understanding in order to build the Tabernacle of the Congregation, the Ark of the Testimony, the Mercy Seat and the furniture. To understand this significance, you must first know a little bit of
history. One of our future books in the “Guided Bible Studies for Hungry
Christians” series will go into great detail and reveal the typology
concerning this. Until then, a brief overview will allow you to gain a
deeper understanding of the Tabernacle and Temple. And Moses said unto the children of Israel, See, the LORD hath called by name Bezaleel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah; And he hath filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship; And to devise curious works, to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass, And in the cutting of stones, to set them, and in carving of wood, to make any manner of cunning work. And he hath put in his heart that he may teach, both he, and Aholiab, the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan. Them hath he filled with wisdom of heart, to work all manner of work, of the engraver, and of the cunning workman, and of the embroiderer, in blue, and in purple, in scarlet, and in fine linen, and of the weaver, even of them that do any work, and of those that devise cunning work. (Exodus 35:30-35 AV)460. Those filled with the Spirits of Understanding, Wisdom, and Knowledge may also teach others what is revealed to them through these Spirits. When this is the case, the LORD GOD is the one who places the teaching desire inside their heart. 461. Not all who do the LORD GOD's Works have the Spirit of Understanding directly.....but all Christians who do works that prepare for the presence of the LORD GOD are being led by a person of the LORD GOD that has the Spirit of Understanding. Then wrought Bezaleel and Aholiab, and every wise hearted man, in whom the LORD put wisdom and understanding to know how to work all manner of work for the service of the sanctuary, according to all that the LORD had commanded. And Moses called Bezaleel and Aholiab, and every wise hearted man, in whose heart the LORD had put wisdom, even every one whose heart stirred him up to come unto the work to do it: And they received of Moses all the offering, which the children of Israel had brought for the work of the service of the sanctuary, to make it withal. And they brought yet unto him free offerings every morning. And all the wise men, that wrought all the work of the sanctuary, came every man from his work which they made; And they spake unto Moses, saying, The people bring much more than enough for the service of the work, which the LORD commanded to make. And Moses gave commandment, and they caused it to be proclaimed throughout the camp, saying, Let neither man nor woman make any more work for the offering of the sanctuary. So the people were restrained from bringing. For the stuff they had was sufficient for all the work to make it, and too much. (Exodus 36:1-7 AV)462. The Spirit of Understanding is given to individual people for specific purposes. Not one man carries the whole project, but many men are given understanding to use with their special talents to accomplish the LORD GOD's Works. 463. Many people of the LORD GOD, who do not have the Spirit of Understanding, will nevertheless witness the Works being done, and want to freely offer their contributions to the project. They become so impassioned for giving to complete a great work for the LORD GOD, that it can become too much and sometimes must be restrained. Then verily the first covenant had also ordinances of divine service, and a worldly sanctuary. For there was a tabernacle made; the first, wherein was the candlestick, and the table, and the shewbread; which is called the sanctuary. And after the second veil, the tabernacle which is called the Holiest of all; Which had the golden censer, and the ark of the covenant overlaid round about with gold, wherein was the golden pot that had manna, and Aaron’s rod that budded, and the tables of the covenant; And over it the cherubims of glory shadowing the mercyseat; of which we cannot now speak particularly. Now when these things were thus ordained, the priests went always into the first tabernacle, accomplishing the service of God. But into the second went the high priest alone once every year, not without blood, which he offered for himself, and for the errors of the people: The Holy Ghost this signifying, that the way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest, while as the first tabernacle was yet standing:464. The Spirit of Understanding prepares the way for the presence of the LORD GOD. The Spirit of Understanding allowed Bezellial to prepare the Tabernacle for the actual glorious presence of the LORD GOD. 465. The first Tabernacle was a shadow of the most perfect Tabernacle to come, which was Jesus Christ in the flesh. Jesus Christ was a tabernacle not made with hands, and a tabernacle that had no need for the sacrifice of animals. By his own blood, He was given entrance into the holy place in the midst of the presence of the LORD GOD, to obtain eternal redemption for Christians. And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots: And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD; And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the LORD: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears: But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked. And righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, and faithfulness the girdle of his reins. The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them. (Isaiah 11:1-6 AV)466. Jesus Christ was given the Spirit of Understanding, which prepared the way and gave him the ability to receive the presence of the LORD GOD. It was through this Spirit that he was given the keen awareness and ability to prepare his tabernacle perfectly. What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also. (1 Corinthians 14:15 AV)467. When a Christian has the Spirit of Understanding, he is able to both pray and sing with Him. As a result, both the prayers and songs of a Christian are able to be in the presence of the LORD GOD. And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding. (Job 28:28 AV)468. When a Christian departs from evil, he is able to do so as a result of receiving the Spirit of Understanding. Once again.....the Spirit of Understanding prepares a place to receive the LORD GOD. Part of this preparation requires the absence of evil. The Spirit of Understanding gives the Christian the ability to discern and remove any evil in his body and within his surroundings to prepare for the receiving of the LORD GOD. Give me understanding, and I shall keep thy law; yea, I shall observe it with my whole heart. (Psalms 119:34 AV)469. When a Christian receives the Spirit of Understanding, he is able to keep the law and commandments of the LORD GOD. Thy hands have made me and fashioned me: give me understanding, that I may learn thy commandments. (Psalms 119:73 AV)470. When a Christian receives the Spirit of Understanding, he is able to learn the LORD GOD’s commandments. Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way. (Psalms 119:104 AV)471. Through the keeping of the LORD GOD’s law, a Christian can receive the Spirit of Understanding. 472. When a Christian receives the Spirit of Understanding, he hates evil and every false way. The LORD by wisdom hath founded the earth; by understanding hath he established the heavens. (Prov 3:19 AV)473. The Spirit of Understanding established the heavens. Notice how the Spirit of Wisdom founded the earth, while the Spirit of Understanding established the heavens? Remember...the Spirit of Understanding’s primary duty is to prepare a place for the presence of the LORD GOD. Because the LORD GOD dwells in the heavens, it was the Spirit of Understanding’s duty to prepare and establish it accordingly. The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding. (Prov 9:10 AV)474. Just as a Christian must fear the LORD GOD to receive the Spirit of Wisdom, the Christian must also possess knowledge of the holy to receive the Spirit of Understanding. The heart of him that hath understanding seeketh knowledge: but the mouth of fools feedeth on foolishness. (Prov 15:14 AV)475. A Christian that has received the Spirit of Understanding seeks knowledge. Through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is established: (Prov 24:3 AV)476. The Spirit of Wisdom and the Spirit of Understanding work together. Though their works are similar, each plays a distinct role in the accomplishment of the LORD GOD’s Will. When the Spirit of Wisdom builds a Christian’s house (his ordered, knowledgeable, unwavering and undeniable beliefs built on the foundation of Christ), then the Spirit of Understanding establishes these truths so the presence of the LORD GOD can come to the Christian’s house. And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me. Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures, (Luke 24:44-45 AV)477. When a Christian receives the Spirit of Understanding, they receive the ability to understand the Scriptures in the LORD GOD’s Word. Yet in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that by my voice I might teach others also, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue. (1 Cor 14:19 AV)478. When a Christian speaks words given to him by the Spirit of Understanding, he is able to teach others. The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, (Ephesians 1:18-20 AV)479. When a Christian’s receives the Spirit of Understanding, his eyes become enlightened. 480. When a Christian receives enlightenment through the Spirit of Understanding, he is able to know: (1) The hope of his calling from the LORD GOD (confidence that the LORD GOD has called the Christian closer to Him) (2) The riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints (The abundant and valuable inheritance bestowed on a Christian) (3) The exceeding greatness of His power to Christians who believe (The tremendous power of the LORD GOD that is given to Christians who believe) (4) The unfaltering knowledge that Christ was raised from the dead and set at the right hand in the heavenly places. (Faith unwavering in the resurrection and ascension of Jesus Christ) This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind, Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart: Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness. (Ephesians 4:17-19 AV)481. When a person is a Gentile, he is a “heathen person of the world”. He does not receive the Spirit of Understanding. Because he is alienated
so far from the life of God, his understanding is completely darkened.
This condition is often referred to in the LORD GOD’s Word as being
“blind”. The complete, typological definition of a blind person as
spoken of in the LORD GOD’s Word is... Spirit of Wisdom And thou shalt make holy garments for Aaron thy brother for glory and for beauty. And thou shalt speak unto all that are wise hearted, whom I have filled with the spirit of wisdom, that they may make Aaron’s garments to consecrate him, that he may minister unto me in the priest’s office. (Exodus 28:2-3 AV)482. The Spirit of Wisdom is given to prepare garments for consecration. Garments are clothing that is the outer covering of a body. It was
revealed previously in our study that the body is the container of the soul.
Therefore, it is easily understood that the typological meaning of
garments (or for that matter, all types of clothing) are the "outward
appearance of a man" whose soul is covered by both body and cloth. It is important to note that a person of the LORD GOD is not made holy
to minister to the world...He is made holy to minister to the LORD GOD. A person that has been blessed by the Spirit of Wisdom through the
preparation of His outward appearance to one of holiness, beauty and
glory, he is then able to assume the office of Priest. To be a Priest
means he is able to be a mediator in religious service to the LORD GOD. (Isaiah 11:1-5 AV)484. Jesus Christ was given the Spirit of Wisdom from the LORD GOD. This allowed him to obtain holiness, glory and beauty, and become the True Mediator between the LORD GOD and man! Once Jesus Christ became the True Mediator and Priest of the LORD GOD,
the Office of Priest became changed. The holy Christian priest would not
receive the Spirit of Wisdom directly from the LORD GOD, but through the
Spirit of Wisdom that dwelled in Jesus Christ. And Joshua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom; for Moses had laid his hands upon him: and the children of Israel hearkened unto him, and did as the LORD commanded Moses. (Deuteronomy 34:9 AV)485. The Spirit of Wisdom, as is with all Spirits of the LORD GOD, can be transferred to others through the "laying on of hands". The possessor of a Spirit of the LORD GOD will lay his hands upon the recipient designated by the LORD GOD to receive, and a portion of that Spirit will transfer. 486.When the Spirit of Wisdom is received by a person of the LORD GOD, the young in faith are able to recognize His presence, and intelligently discern the messages and give attention to his words. For God giveth to a man that is good in his sight wisdom, and knowledge, and joy: but to the sinner he giveth travail, to gather and to heap up, that he may give to him that is good before God. This also is vanity and vexation of spirit. (Ecclesiastes 2:26 AV)487. The Spirit of Wisdom is given to those who are "good" in the sight of the LORD GOD. 488. When a person is good and given the Spirit of Wisdom, he also receives the Spirit of Knowledge. 489. A person that has been given the Spirit of Wisdom and the Spirit of Knowledge receives joy. And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him. (Luke 2:40 AV)490. Jesus Christ was filled with the Spirit of Wisdom as a small child. This allowed him to grow and become strong in his Spirit, and receive the grace of the LORD GOD. And Jesus increased in widom and stature, and in favour with God and man. (Luke 2:52AV)491. The Spirit of Wisdom increased in Jesus as he grew. As a result, he had a great maturity and was given favor and accepted by the LORD GOD and men. Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant. Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led. Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost. Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will. (1 Corinthians 12:1-11 AV)492. There are three ways a Christian can receive the Spirits of the LORD GOD... (1) Those given as gifts through the Holy Spirit (2) Those administered through our Lord Jesus Christ (3) Those works present through the LORD GOD That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: (Ephesians 1:17 AV)493. The Spirit of Wisdom can be received by all Christians for the purpose of obtaining revelation and knowledge of the LORD GOD and Jesus Christ. Because God hath deprived her of wisdom, neither hath he imparted to her understanding. (Job 39:17 AV)494. If the LORD GOD deprives a person of the Spirit of Wisdom, He will not give that person the Spirit of Understanding. My mouth shall speak of wisdom; and the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding. (Psalms 49:3 AV)495. The mouth speaks the things of the Spirit of Wisdom. The heart contemplates the things of the Spirit of Understanding. Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom. (Psalms 51:6 AV)496. The Spirit of Wisdom also is given to Christians so they can wisely know the True Things of the LORD GOD and Jesus Christ. The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever. (Psalms 111:10 AV)497. A Christian must have a fear of the LORD before he can receive the Spirit of Wisdom. The LORD by wisdom hath founded the earth; by understanding hath he established the heavens. (Proverbs 3:19 AV)498. The LORD GOD founded the earth through the Spirit of Wisdom, which allowed the natural order of His Creation to progress. The Spirit of Understanding established the heavens as the dwelling place of the LORD GOD. O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out! (Romans 11:33 AV)499. The Spirit of Wisdom and the Spirit of Knowledge or deeply rich and unsearchable in their greatness. They are so great in their abilities, that their ways can never be known completely by man. Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought: But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory: Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ. (1 Corinthians 2:6-16 AV)500. The Spirit of Wisdom speaks the wisdom of the LORD GOD in a mystery. This wisdom is hidden from the world, and revealed only to those of the LORD GOD according to His Will. 501. The Spirit of Wisdom and His Mysteries were ordained before Jesus Christ came to this world. 502. The world did not have the wisdom to recognize Jesus Christ, or they would not have crucified him. 503. The Spirit of Wisdom and His Mysteries concerning Jesus Christ were deeper than eye, ear or heart had ever considered. 504. The Spirit of Wisdom freely gives Christians the wisdom necessary to understand the LORD GOD's Word and Mysteries. He teaches the wise things through the Holy Ghost. He does not use wise men of the world to teach the mysteries of the LORD GOD. 505. The Spirit of Wisdom teaches a Christian by comparing spiritual things with spiritual. This means that a basic learned concept is expounded on further as the student is able to fully comprehend the lesson. The structure of Becker Bible Studies attempts to structure our Workbooks in the same manner, scripture upon scripture, lesson upon lesson, idea upon idea and all built on the Foundation of Jesus Christ. 506. The Spirit of Wisdom allows a Christian to be spiritually discerned. "Spiritually discerned" means to have the ability to scrutinize, question, search, examine, and judge the deep things of the LORD GOD. A worldly man cannot know the mysteries because he is incapable of searching Scriptures and examining them in the way that reveals the deep things of the LORD GOD.For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness; (Colossians 1:9-11)507. When a Christian is filled with the Spirit of Wisdom and the Spirit of Understanding, he is able to know the Will of the LORD GOD. 508. When a Christian knows the Will of the LORD GOD, he is able to please him and be fruitful in every good work. 509. When a Christian pleases the LORD GOD and is fruitful in every good work, his knowledge in the LORD GOD increases. 510. When a Christian's knowledge of the LORD GOD increases, he is strengthened with the power of Jesus Christ, and is able to be patient and longsuffering with joy in his heart. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. (Colossians 3:16 AV)511. The Spirit of Wisdom enables the Word of Jesus Christ to richly dwell inside a Christian. This Wisdom allows a Christian to teach, admonish, and give back to Jesus Christ. 512. The Spirit of Wisdom teaches and admonishes through psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. When spiritual music is made, it allows a person's spirit to reach the Lord Jesus Christ through the grace placed in their hearts. If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. (James 1:5 AV)513. If a Christian is lacking in wisdom, he should ask the LORD GOD to give him the Spirit of Wisdom. The LORD GOD gives of this Spirit liberally to Christians, and does not reproach and taunt him for not understanding. The LORD GOD will give a Christian the Spirit of Wisdom if he asks for it. Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom. But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace. (James 3:13-18 AV)514. A Christian that has received the Spirit of Wisdom has knowledge which is revealed in his conversation with meekness. 515. If a person has bitter envying, and strife in his heart, without glory and speaking things against the truth, then his wisdom descends from the sensual, evil world. This type of wisdom will result in confusion and the accomplishment of every evil work. 516. The wisdom that comes from the Spirit of Wisdom is peaceable, gentle, easily persuadable and understood, full of mercy, full of good completed good works, without partiality and without hypocrisy. The Spirit of Wisdom causes a Christian to sow the fruit of righteousness in peace to those that make peace. The Spirit of Understanding allows a Christian to prepare a place to receive the LORD GOD. The Spirit of Wisdom gives the Christian the ability to hear the LORD GOD and discern His Will. The two Spirits work hand in hand together, and where The Spirit of Understanding is, so is the Spirit of Wisdom. These two Spirits equip a Christian with the ability to receive the Mysteries of the LORD GOD. These two Spirits are within you today, if you are receiving knowledge from this study. You would not be able to understand the deep things of the LORD GOD revealed in this study if you did not have these two Spirits. Praise the LORD GOD for blessing you with these Spirits, and pray for more of the Spirits of Understanding and Wisdom to be infused into your soul so you might get even more understanding of the deep things of the LORD GOD. |
