One Rank of Angels in the Celestial Hierarchy

Powers are one of the ranks of the different ranks of the company of angel spoken of in Hebrews 12:22 which have an indefinite number. It is important to know the classification of angels to better understand the organization of GOD.

There are thought to be nine celestial orders of Angels: Colossians 1:16

1. Seraphim
2. Cherubim
3. Thrones
4. Dominions
5. Principalities
6. Powers
7. Virtues (Falsely Suggested)
8. Archangels
9. Guardian Angels (Suggested by the Catholic Church)

There is however, no concrete Biblical proof of the exact ranking order or importance of the different angel groups. The same could be said of the members of the body. “18 But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him.19 And if they were all one member, where were the body? 20 But now are they many members, yet but one body.21 And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you.” (1 Corinthians 12:18-21). Only the Lord GOD can say what the orders of importance the angels take.

Powers - Strongs Lexicon #1849. Privilege, i.e. (subjectively) force, capacity, competency, freedom, or (objectively) mastery (concretely, magistrate, superhuman, potentate, token of control), delegated influence, authority, jurisdiction, liberty, power, right, strength.

Strongs Lexicon # 1411. force (literally or figuratively); specially, miraculous power (usually by implication, a miracle itself), ability, abundance, meaning, might(-ily, -y, -y deed), (worker of) miracle(-s), power, strength, violence, mighty (wonderful) work. English the ability to do or act, government, influence, or authority delegated authority, the sixth order of angels (they impose the order on heavenly pathways).

Matthew 24:29 tells us that immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:

Mark 13:25 And the stars of heaven shall fall, and the powers that are in heaven shall be shaken.

Luke 21:26 Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.

Romans 8:38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come

Hebrews 6:5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come

1 Peter 3:22 Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him.

Examples of strong angels that could be of the order of Powers.

Revelation 5:2 refers to the strong angel who questions in a loud voice asking who is worthy to open the book and to break its seals?

Revelation 10:1 makes reference to another strong angel coming down out of heaven, clothed with a cloud; and the rainbow was upon his head, and his face was like the sun, and his feet like pillars of fire.

Revelation 18:21 another strong angel took up a stone like a great millstone and threw it into the sea, saying "thus will Babylon, the great city, be thrown down with violence, and will not be found any longer."

2 Thessalonians 1:7 indicates that relief will be given to those who are afflicted when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels in flaming fire.

2 Kings 19:35 and Isaiah 37:36 reveals that the angel of the LORD went out and struck 185,00 in the camp of the Assyrians; and when men rose early in the morning, all of them were dead.

Psalms 103:20 blesses the LORD, you His mighty angels, mighty in strength, who perform His word, obeying the voice of His word.

Acts 12:23 and angel of the LORD struck Herod dead because he did not give GOD the Glory. Genesis 19:1 two angels announced the destruction of Sodom.

2 Samuel 24:16 and 1 Chronicles 21:15 an angel was going to destroy Jerusalem but GOD stopped it because David was sorry he had sinned. Exodus 12:23 The destroyer angel was sent to smite the first born in Egypt during the Passover celebration.

We are warned NOT TO WORSHIP ANGELS! Let no man defraud your reward by delighting in false humility and worshiping of angels, intruding into those things which he has not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind. (Colossians 2:18).

John saw the prophecy of the book of revelations and after which he saw and heard all that he was permitted he fell down to worship before the feet of the angel which had showed him all those things. The angel told him NOT to bow down he was a fellow servant, and a brother of the prophets, he should worship the LORD GOD. (Revelation 22:8-9).

We are warned not to get caught worshiping or serving the sun, moon, stars, or the host of heavens (angels), which the LORD GOD has not commanded. This is an abomination. (Deuteronomy 17:3-5; Deuteronomy 4:19).
