The Secret makes false teachings popular and alluring to wordly congregation - 03/29/2007
Oprah, one of the spiritual leaders of the worldly congregation, announced her avid support of the book "The Secret" as she dedicated two shows in support of the best-seller. The author of the book, Rhonda Byrne, is an australian video producer that has written the newest of a string of self-fulfillment books to gain riches and might through the power of the mind.
The number of American followers of New Thought and Unity churches is increasing due to the popularity of the book. The services at these churches normally have decidedly Christian overtones, with regular readings from the Bible and references to God and Jesus....but here's the kicker. They do not believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God. They practice Communions on the holidays and give messages on Sundays, with a moment of silence reserved for any form of meditation the congregated prefer.
"We teach people how to think, not what to think, and folks find that appealing," Rev. Temple Hayes of the First Unity Church proclaims proudly.
Material wealth and personal power has drawn people to unleash their mesmerizing energy spirits to focus on their carnal success ever since the Civil War when hypnosis became the rage. Fascination with the unseen world brought the interest in Spiritualism to those who admired Houdini and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. By the 1920s, Spiritualism was replaced with a new movement that is recognizable by the title "New Thought" today.
New Thought believes that the human mind is capable of delivering anything it desires in a get-rich, get-healthy, get-powerful pholosophy. Lovers of this mantra often embrace a thought process that "God never said it wasn't OK to be well fed, well clothed or drive a nice car."
The worship of God, the guiding of the Holy Spirit and the following of Jesus Christ are rejected, as the spiritually naive coveters of riches and health embrace their own powers to success...and the congregation of the worldly church becomes more focused on their ultimate prize...the leading of self-actualized people by the devil himself, through his promise of prosperity and peace at the cost of the loss of eternal life.
